I love anything and everything Emma Mills writes and this latest book is NO EXCEPTION! She creates believable worlds out of the unbelievable. She creates characters that are rich and varied and always remind you of someone you know in your own life. The story takes you in twists and turns and you never know where things are going to go!

This book is a loose tie-in to the amazing Witchblood series, tied in through Brittany, Jess' witchy friend. Although Brittany is not the main character, it tells of her time (prior to meeting Jess) at Ravenwood, a mysterious boarding school where nothing is as it seems. This book centers around Brooke, a "troubled" girl who has been sent here and there to live with one foster family after another, eventually finding herself in Ravenwood. It is here that she comes to realize that the world is not what she thought it was, and neither is she. She also learns of the capacity for cruelty that exists in the name of righteousness.

The world of Ravenwood is very dark and very disturbing. There were moments in which the school reminded me of those "scare them straight" schools/camps that exist. It was terrifying and it makes you think about the level of cruelty that some people are capable of when faced with a fear of the unknown, of someone different from that which one considers to be acceptable.

Things to love...

--The twists and turns. I spent most of the book not knowing who was good and who was bad. And, really, those lines are never made clear, illustrating the fact that we each have the capacity for both.
--The dark tone. The disturbing nature really added to the suspense of the story and I loved it!

My Recommendation: While you could read this as a standalone, it would really be better with the experience of the Witchblood series. It is set before the time of the main series, but could be read at any point, in my opinion!

This book caught me up right away. I was expecting the vampire angle, from the getgo, but the way they threw in the witch powers, with the angels and everything else involved, got to be a little confusing at times. The story was intriguing, and the characters were connectable, but the premise behind it was a little unclear. An enjoyable read, though, and I'll be sure to pick up the next two if only to see how the story continues :)

Genevieve tells the story of how Eva became a vampire.

This! THIS is what I wanted Witchblood to be! Eva is a much better character than Jessica!
I wish witch Blood had been focused on Eva. I'm sure I would have loved it.

I don't know how the author managed to pack more action and emotion into this novella than the actual book that follows.
If the author guarantees more of Eva & Sebastian in the following books, I will run out & buy copies right now.
I demand to know how and why these two drifted apart.

Had this book been linger I would have easily rated it 5 stars.

“Now the life I knew had been extinguished and I was being told I'd been murdered by a girl gang, saved by a vampire, been buried, dug up again and here I was walking, talking and feeling a thirst like no other!” -pg. 32

The main character, Jessica James, has just been murdered by a gang girl. Lucky for her, she has caught the eye of a handsome vampire named Daniel. He has bitten her which not only resulted in him saving her life, but also in turning her into a vampire. But she is no normal vampire, of course. She, as the book title suggests, has witch blood. That will undoubtedly make her the most powerful vampire around once she learns to control her powers.

Initially, I was very excited to read Witchblood. Even though I don't really like Paranormal books, I thought I would enjoy this.,
It only took me a couple of pages to realize it wasn't for me. I thought Witch Blood would be one of those “so bad it's good” books.
But I was mistaken. It's just plain bad.

It's your run-of-the-mill PNR novel containing vampires, angels, and witches.

The only thing I liked about this book (& kept it from being 1 star) was Daniel. He's your average Paranormal YA guy. Meaning he's tall, handsome, kind, caring, a great kisser, and head-over-heels in love with the MC.
Either way, I liked Daniel.

Most of the secondary characters were good, too. I though Eva and Sebastian weren't too bad. I thought they were more likeable than the actual MC, to be honest.

The concept was interesting but it was poorly executed. She only uses her powers about 3 times. She spends most of her time in the house. She'll occasionally cuddle up with Daniel on the couch while thinking about Luke, or sleep most of the day.
That's boring to me. That's sound like something I would do. I read to entertain myself with other people's adventures. Unfortunately, Jessica had little to no adventures.
If the main character in the other books in this series was anyone besides Jessica, I would read them.

I recommend the novella, Genevieve, though.
I found it to be very entertaining & I liked it much more than Witchblood.
