Kathryn Montgomery

The book is misnamed, since the author isn't an MD, nor does she discuss the topic much at all. It's more like a diary of a philosopher / mother of a cancer patient. There are occasional insights, but few and far between.

On this topic, I would instead highly recommend the book by Jerome Groopman by the same title. Groopman's book is captivating, enthralling, and highly enlightening for the lay reader.
