House Report (Kate Carpenter Mysteries Book 1) av Deborah Nicholson
Back when I read this 2011 I did not write a review. But today 2/2020 I still remember this well written mystery with likable characters.
I hate giving one stars to a book that I really wanted to like. The story started off really rough I couldn't get the relationship between Kate and Graham. I was utterly confused and the whole book took me by surprise. I think that it was over-written and over-played. I think it was a overplayed, unedited version of an attempt at a Stephanie Plum mystery. I just did not like it. The one good thing about this book is that it was FREE!
Theatre manager Kate Carpenter gets involved in another police investigation - there are many references to previous cases although there have only been two other books in the series. Even though Kate is a likeable character, she is irritatingly pugnacious, which gets tiresome. I would have enjoyed a stronger atmosphere related to the setting of the theatre that Kate manages. It seemed like coffee - whether drinking, brewing, buying, choosing, or avoiding it - took up a lot of space, which suggests it was “filler”. Disappointingly, it was very easy to immediately spot ‘whodunit’.… (mer)
