A decent addition to this arc, although I wouldn't say this is a particularly standout issue in any way. The art style is solid, and (as ever) it's fun to see Kate kickin' around baddies with Lucky in tow, but the story hits a lull here as this issue pretty much just has Kate casually sleuthing around the a resort and not doing much else. I personally was hoping for some deeper Kate and Susan moments but maybe we'll see that later. The question now is: WHO is behind the resort and is watching Kate??… (mer)

Ahhh I want to love every bit of those because it’s Kate Bishop, but the dialogue and story are just very VERY dry at this point. Issue #3 feels almost identical to Issue #2: action, talk to Susan, action, cliffhanger/hint at villain. Although I liked the Kate and Susan moment (something I said I wanted more of) in theory, even that part feel a bit flat and uninspired.
Dialogue and story-wise, it just needs to be DEEPER. None of the lines hit the mark quite right, or they feel like Nijkamp is trying to be “relatable”. I don’t think Nijkamp does Kate justice, and would like to see Kate’s voice in someone else’s hands.
Enid Balám and Brittany Peer are really the ones who knock it out of the park with their artwork and save the issue from being bland.
I’m excited to see how everything wraps up, but I’m not going to get my hopes up for anything ~ incredible ~.

The premise for this arc is a great one: Kate is feeling ready to say goodbye to the West Coast and head back to New York, but is dragging her feet because she doesn't necessarily want to return to the person she was in NY. So she decides to take the long way home and RSVP to a mysterious invitation she's been sent and check out some strange going-on's a resort that seems to cater to the rich...including a member of her own family.
Kate's voice and appearance do seem a bit off- a little too cartoonish and like the writer is trying too hard to make her "hip" or something. On the plus side, I'm super happy to see America and Cassie chatting with Kate and them all being friends. The pacing is solid, and already the story promises some classic Bishop intrigue and chaos- I'm eager to see where this goes!… (mer)

This whole story has been viciously mediocre in terms of writing and plot execution but after a good first issue followed by two issues of utter meh this one just felt even more bland. We finally got the big villain reveal at the end of issue #3 but all we got from them here was a run of the mill monologue moment and a weak “mwahaha come to the dark side” attempt before the plot yet AGAIN just has Kate running around shooting arrows and having poorly written convos with her sister.
I haven’t read anything by Marieke Nijkamp before this and I certainly won’t be after. I don’t know if they’ve just only written novels until now, or if they just are totally unfamiliar with Kate Bishop, but their writing feels dated, uninspired, and is the biggest weakness in this Hawkeye run.
My poor Kate’s really being done dirty here :(
