Patternity

This is both a beautiful art book or a manifesto of visual mindfulness. Its strong suit is its lush, high-quality images, juxtaposed to play up connections between the organic and industrial, micro and macro, accidental and deliberately designed, and to pay tribute to the repeating patterns and shapes that occur in everyday life. The text—essays and quotes, often informative and occasionally self-important—exhorts awareness of this visual interconnectivity, suggesting that a holistic approach to design, and to viewing one’s environment with an eye out for its commonalities, can be an effective way to approach visual solutions and spark the imagination. And it's true—a little visual consciousness-raising is never a bad thing.

This is put out by the UK design collective Patternity, and there are some slightly commercial choices—but it's a really pretty book, and good for a little visual rewiring.… (mer)
