Michael Pollan is a contributing writer for "The New York Times Magazine" as well as a contributing editor at "Harper's" magazine. He is the author of two prize-winning books: "Second Nature: A Gardener's Education" and "A Place of My Own: The Education of an Amateur Builder." This book was published in 2007, so the message he was putting across has been heard by just about everyone who will be affected by it. That being said, it's still a great book and well worth the time. His description of life on a farm where everything is an interlocking piece of a large puzzle is worth the price of admission alone.

I loved Pollan's previous books, which were short, to the point, sensible and informative. This one was just too long. There were interesting bits about the history of food and cooking, but to get to them I had to wade through reams of details about his and other people's lives and cooking styles, implements, methods, etc. etc. etc. Maybe in my next life I'll have time to finish the approaching 500 pages.
Edit: I've been gifted with a copy, so will at least have leisure to pick through it.

Another Audiosync free audiobook, this is the “prequel,” so to speak, of another book I read on the same subject, called, “In Defense of Food”. I enjoyed learning about farm practices and a variety of nature and food facts.
