Arguably the most influential composers in electronic music, Daft Punk continues to prove their musical genius with Random Access Memories. Daft Punk established their ability to write a hit song with the album's lead single "Get Lucky" featuring Pharrell Williams, which in addition to commercial success, received critical praise as well. However, despite leading with a single with the intention of grabbing a mass audience's attention, the rest of Random Access Memories does not fall short of a musical masterpiece. The album combines a classic French house sound with 1970s and 1980s tunes by limiting the use of electronic instruments and rather recording live sessions. As a result of this, Random Access Memories could also be considered a modern disco album. Nile Rogers plays on three songs, providing his signature funky guitar sound and further impacting the overall disco/funk feel of the album.
Random Access Memories is an album that combines Daft Punk's unique and incredibly influential house sound with the sound that originally influenced that genre. The end result is a dreamlike, timeless work, that provides a glimpse through the modern history of dance music.… (mer)
