Was it just me or did I read an entirely different book than everyone else? I found myself more often than not frustrated with Sloane and Myles relationship. Like pull my hair out type of frustration and it took a hell of a long time for Sloane to finally and I mean finally step back and cut the cord on the disastrous marriage, and that was a little over the halfway mark.

I couldn't pinpoint anything worth mentioning on the positive side due to so many things about the book I didn't like: Sloane and Myles (for obvious reasons) and the marriage itself, the useless and unlikable secondary characters, the storyline that's seemed to be relatable but failed to capture any interest, and then the ending that failed to meet any of my expectations.

Moreso, it's mind-boggling how this "hilarious rom-com" description is what initially brought me in but going through the motions, I thought for sure I was reading the wrong novel. Where was the romance? Where was the comedy? Please tell me wheeeeeeere?! It's like in place of the actual romance and comedy portions, the author included far more tedious and redundant scenes could have easily been cut out to make this a smooth sailing ride, and the slowpacing storyline was such a drag. Like more of a 'why must you torture me' type of draaaaaaaaaaaaaag.

Consequently, rather if it's unpopular opinion or not, "No, We Can't Be Friends" was everything that could go wrong with a rom-com.

Light and pleasant, not laugh-out-loud, or particularly romantic. I'm being fairly harsh but I had expectations...!

It has a simple plot around planning the wedding of Natalie and Archie, which is fun in itself but is drawn out at the cost of humour. 10 hrs 35 mins would have been perfect at 8 hours. I seem to have been dipping into it constantly and am only 2/3 through - will I finish it? No quibbles with the reader, Jessica Preddy. She does a great job.

Speaking of humour, there's an edge to the meddling groom's mother's portrayal that makes it just a bit too real for a romantic comedy! Also, Archie seems a great guy but his lack of participation in the planning or in curbing his mother is scary - is he a coward or lacking empathy? The result is he's an anti-romantic hero in that he is far from protective of Nat.

I see I'm the first to comment on this book and that it was published 5 months ago in June 2021.

Sorry, Not Sorry is a fun, entertaining novel and an easy read, perfect for a lazy day on the beach or after a long day at work. If follows the story of Charlotte, a bored twenty-seven year old woman struggling to find love. When she listens to the podcast “Sorry Not Sorry,” which encourages women to find their inner bad girl and jump into the dating game, Charlotte takes the challenge and stumbles into a comedy of errors.

There are laugh-out-loud moments, cringe-worthy moments, and fun surprise moments. The writing is easy to follow and the pace is comfortable for a late night read with a cuppa. Charlotte is a well-developed and relatable character as she struggles through love’s highs and lows. She fumbles around in the dating game, mostly making a fool out of herself, but learns from her experiences and earns self-respect. And of course, the person she ends up with is the last person she expects.

This isn’t a fast-paced narrative, but the writing style (told from Charlotte’s perspective) is often dead-pan and witty, and is extremely gratifying. The supporting characters are developed well and are believable—we all have a friend or a boss like Charlotte’s.

Overall, this is an enjoyable chick-lit rom-com. It won’t change your life, but it’s a must-read for anyone who loves romance and humour.
