This (to date) is actually the best Sterek "kid fic" I have read. The premise is that Kate had a child of Derek's that she kept from him. It seems to be set after Season 1 with canon divergence sometime in Season 2. So after Kate's death, a six year old girl named Clara is delivered to Chris Argent (by her "nanny" of sorts), she has been a total mystery to Chris as well. Chris and Allison take the girl in and are good to her, but after an encounter between Allison and Clara and Stiles at the mall, Derek can smell "a relative" of his on Stiles ... everything leads back to Clara. Upon realizing Clara is his, Derek wants custody and goes to Stiles for help, who involves his Dad - since it is a legal matter. Through the process of getting Clara and raising her, the relationship begins to bud between Stiles and Derek.

The highlights of this story I felt were mainly between the Argents and Derek and between Stiles and Clara. A lot of tension verse sweetness and guilt verse regret. Feels for everyone, not just our main players. And though the child was written as if she was three or four and not six or seven, she was in the background enough and like her father enough to not be annoying.

This is a slow build for Derek and Stiles and glazed over smexy time, but as far as relating to the show, I thought this was a very plausible premise (and I have to admit that even while watching the show, I keep wondering when a Derek / Kate kid is going to pop up in all of the drama the Argents have already caused him).… (mer)
