Maid for Pleasure was an enjoyable read, it was fast paced, well written and I ended up reading this book very quickly, I couldn't put it down until I knew what was going to happen to Libby. Lucy's writing is excellent, descriptions were well written and when she described the Island and the house you could picture the beautiful place in your head. I really enjoyed Lucy Rodgers writing style and will read many more of her books. Maid For Pleasure is a well written erotica/bdsm novel.

Libby has just recently broken up with her boyfriend and is looking for a change, having some time off work and knows she needs a change in her hectic work life she signs up for an online dating site for submissives called Maid For It. Libby plans on staying for 2 weeks to live out her dream of totally letting go and giving control completely over to her dominant, but after two weeks she will return to her real life. We meet Gavin Huntley the dominant...and Libby must submit to this powerful man. At first he has her cleaning and she wonders what type of dominant he was.....was she ever going to get what she wanted? Enjoying her stay and the people she meets Libby cannot believe her time is almost up, wondering how she is going to walk away. Will her family and friends believe Libby is alright? See what happens next!

Maid For Pleasure is a bit dark, has some suspense added in and I really enjoyed Lucy Rodgers writing, I opened this book one afternoon and didn't stop reading it till I reached the end. I highly recommend to anyone who enjoys this genre.

An erotic novella that tries to tell a novel-sized story and fails.

I'd like to give this a higher rating, because the writing is fairly decent, but actually I was irritated from almost beginning to end. It starts with a premise that requires heavy suspension of disbelief. The main character is trying to immigrate illegally from Mexico into the US because she's witnessed a murder and fears that puts her next on the killer's hit list. So she flees north of the border but gets caught in a raid, brought before a judge, and told she can stay...if she'll agree to work for Maid For It, a company that supplies maids/sex workers to a clientele of very, very wealthy men. (The dubious legality of her sentence is later explained; the more ridiculous notion that this company struggles to find an adequate supply of employees to meet the demands of its very many, very wealthy clients is not).

After the first scene we start jumping ahead a lot. The author wants to hit the highlights - so we see Gabi's first night with the hero, Ben Hardcastle, then jump ahead almost six weeks to the next big emotional moment, when she gets permission to leave the house for the first time, and then, poof, we're a few weeks ahead of that at another crisis. But these big emotional moments that Rodgers is describing have no impact if we haven't witnessed the buildup to them; at one point Gabi is saying, "now I've had time to get to know Ben as a person..." and, well, good for her but as a reader I haven't had that time, and he's just as much a stranger as he was to me at the beginning. You know. About a chapter previous.

Also, the sex scenes are really, really brief for erotica. They whiz by super fast - in a paragraph or two - though they are frequent. I did not find them sexy at all. Mostly because all the emotions involved are so out of sync. Rodgers is trying to shoehorn this big love story into such a brief page count, and she takes massive shortcuts. Over the course of their first night together, they go from complete strangers to employer/employee sex partners to committed master/sub couple. One night! When the heroine is a terrified refugee virgin and the hero is a reclusive, demanding millionaire who's gone through subs like tissue paper in the past. And all the further emotional developments are no more believable.

This might have worked as a novel, where Rodgers gave every element of this story its due. And it might have worked if Rodgers had found a story better suited to the short, erotic novel she actually wrote. But it doesn't work as is.

This was a quick, semi-enjoyable dubcon novella, but I found it really disappointing. The sample sells a BDSM-esque story with dubious consent, but the book quickly devolves into a run-of-the-mill erotic romance. The hero is a rich businessman, the heroine's a virgin, deus ex machina is the book's middle name and 90% of the sex is pure vanilla.

If you like dubcon/noncon, this won't scratch that itch. There's no moral ambiguity in this tale. If anything, this is a sweet, padded My First Dubcon Erotica for the vanilla romance crowd. It takes no chances, pushes no boundaries and stays safe and unoffensive.
