Allmänna fakta

The third romantic suspense title in the New Orleans series gives Phin Bishop a chance for his own romance. He suffers from PTSD and tends to disappear when he is overstressed. He's been gone from Brussard Investigations for five months this time. He returns just in time to go into the office and see a gunman running from the scene after shooting their receptionist Joy. Phin and his friend Stone manage to do CPR on Joy until the ambulance arrives but miss out on the chance to chase the shooter.

Phin's only clue to who might have shot Joy is that Cora Winslow had come in to consult with Broussards about the fact that the body of her father has been discovered in the demolition of a building. He was murdered 23 years earlier which is hard to understand since she's been receiving letters from him ever since he disappeared.

The people at Broussards want to know who shot Joy and believe it is related to Cora's problem. They decide to work with Cora to try to solve her case. As they are working together, Cora and Phin become close.

Meanwhile, we are also seeing the story from the viewpoint of Alan Beauchamp who is the pastor at a megachurch and a murderer. However, macular degeneration means that he has to depend on his grandson Sage when there are things to clean up, but Sage is tired of being his grandfather's flunky and tool.

This was both an entertaining thriller and an entertaining romance. I liked both Cora and Phin very much and liked their circle of friends. It was nice to catch up with characters who starred in earlier books in the series.

Prosecutor Kristen Mayhew specializes in cases of assault on women. When a serial killer leaves letters for her at the scene of his crimes, it becomes clear that she is the focus of his crusade to kill men who escaped justice in court due to a technicality. Detective Abe Reagan is assigned to investigate and finds himself attracted to the young prosecutor. However, both Abe and Kristen must deal with the trauma each suffered in the past before they can find happiness with each other in the future.

I'm Watching You is another enjoyable romantic suspense novel by Karen Rose. While the solution to the mystery doesn't come as too much of a shock, there is still a great deal of suspense and angst to keep the attention of the reader. Kristen and Abe are both well developed with emotions that come across as authentic and dialogue that seems real. Supporting characters play important roles in the story, but may be developed more in future books in this long running series. Overall, I'm Watching You balances romance and suspense, making this a worthwhile read.

Neil Davies has had to live with the knowledge that the technicality that caused the release of a serial killer was his fault. Now there are new cases but instead of his home town of Seattle, this time they are in North Carolina. Special Agent Steven Thatcher has been on these new cases from the beginning with little luck in solving them until Neil comes along. At the same time, Dr. Jenna Marshall, high school science teacher has been dealing with the vandalism that comes with failing the star quarterback of the football team. Before long, it becomes clear that all of these incidents may be related.

Have You Seen Her is a good romantic suspense novel with well developed characters. Steven is difficult to like since he makes mostly bad decisions, leaving the love story feeling a bit weak. The likability of the other characters in the story, including the children makes up some for the lack of romance. Both Steven and Jenna have suffered loss with neither of them handling it very well and this plays into the drama prevalent throughout the narrative. Also, the serial killer storyline does have a mental health aspect, but I don't have enough experience or knowledge in this are to know how well it's handled. Overall, Have You Seen Her is a solid romantic suspense novel.

Mary Grace Winters has finally escaped her abusive husband after he nearly killed her, and she has started a new life in Chicago along with her son. The death of her boss leaves her without a father figure, but her new boss, Max Hunter, attracts her as no man ever has. Under the new identity as Caroline Stewart, Mary Grace thinks she might find happiness with Max, but her husband is looking for her and may ruin her life once again.

Don't Tell does a great job balancing romance and suspense in this novel that highlights the issue of domestic abuse. The character of Caroline is shown growing and finding herself in her new life after the devastation of a life of abuse. Max doesn't get as much development, and the husband, Rob Winters, is very one dimensional, while other characters are barely introduced. However, the clues and evidence are spread evenly throughout the narrative allowing for very good pacing. I was expecting a bit more from this novel, but overall Don't Tell is a well developed romantic suspense.… (mer)
