Author Signing and Interview S. J. Rozan läser ur Shanghai Moon.Help us celebrate Rozan's birthday. We're doing a cake and candles (she says please, not the real number); your part is the book. We left PI Bill Smith estranged from Lydia Chin. Lydia is now back in Chinatown with mom in their jointly occupied apartment (the stuff of drama there) and recovering from the horrors of Winter and Night ($6.99)—the 2002 Edgar winner for Best Novel. Her former PI mentor Joel Pilarsky enlists her in a case to track stolen jewels dating back to WWII. The jewels belonged to a Jewish family who had left Germany in 1938 for Shanghai, one of the few places that would take Jewish refugees in. Could one of the missing jewels be the legendary jade and diamond piece called the Shanghai Moon? Joel is murdered, his client the Swiss lawyer doing asset recovery work fires Lydia from the case. Enter Bill…. I just love this series on every count: characters, dialogue, story, landscapes, history, and just good writing! An Indie Next Notable for Feb. (baffleonious)… (mer)
