In 2004, Brooklyn independent press Akashic Books published a new anthology, Brooklyn Noir, comprised of all-new stories set in the borough. The book was a stunning success, and spawned a groundbreaking series of Noir books set in cities and regions around the globe. Tonight, Akashic brings it back to where it all started, with readings from five Noir books set in the boroughs of New York City, by the editors and contributors. It’s a battle of the boroughs, Akashic style, with complimentary beer to wash down the inky-black noir fiction! Featured books and other Noir titles will be on offer.

The Dilys Award has been given annually since 1992 by the Independent Mystery Booksellers Association to the mystery titles of the year which the member booksellers have most enjoyed selling. The Dilys Award is named in honor of Dilys Winn, the founder of the first specialty bookseller of mystery books in the United States. This fall, member stores are celebrating 2012 winner, Ghost Hero by S.J. Rozan, in conjunction with publisher Minotaur Books, to coincide with the Bouchercon World Mystery Convention. Help us celebrate Rozan's birthday. We're doing a cake and candles (she says please, not the real number); your part is the book. We left PI Bill Smith estranged from Lydia Chin. Lydia is now back in Chinatown with mom in their jointly occupied apartment (the stuff of drama there) and recovering from the horrors of Winter and Night ($6.99)—the 2002 Edgar winner for Best Novel. Her former PI mentor Joel Pilarsky enlists her in a case to track stolen jewels dating back to WWII. The jewels belonged to a Jewish family who had left Germany in 1938 for Shanghai, one of the few places that would take Jewish refugees in. Could one of the missing jewels be the legendary jade and diamond piece called the Shanghai Moon? Joel is murdered, his client the Swiss lawyer doing asset recovery work fires Lydia from the case.
