Summary:
Laila is getting married and all of her family comes to see her. In her family from generation to generation, they have passe ddown a necklace that was made in Syria. When her Aunt came with the gifts the necklace was no where to be found. They searched and searched and still was not found. Everyone paniced because that necklace had been passed on from mother to daughter for many years. Laila's brother Amal was sent to the car to get the remaining gifts and as he was gathering the gifts, he caught a glimpse of the gold wrapped box everyone had been looking for. That was the box that the necklace was in. Everyone was so happy and Laila was given the family jewel.

Personal Reaction:
It was a neat gesture that the mothers pass on to their daughters a neckalce. They do that for each generation. Celebrating marriage is a fun time for friends and family to all get together and celebrate.

Classroom Extension Ideas:
1. Have students pair in groups and discuss some of the wedding traditions they have in their families.
2. Give lesson on Arab culture and to make enjoyable,bring different foods for students to try (humus and pita bread, baklava, etc).… (mer)
