How do you recruit new workers for a secret organization?
I would be interested in a follow up.
It could use an editing pass, however. The location of the lab in relation to Cincinnati is not clear, and the interaction between Decimus and Septimus in the ambulance left me disoriented as to who was saying what and where they were sitting.

Borderline Mary Sue main character, but then everything is well sourced. By that I mean, he is very capable but young, with a complicated background that turns what would otherwise be an unlikely character into into a likable one.
One minor continuity issue: using water for a shower and the planet Loki...something in there felt tangled. It doesn't really break the flow, it just confused me for a moment as to what season he expected or something.
In some ways it reminds me of Nathan Lowell's "Tales of the Golden Age" series, but better. More human.
I would gladly pre-order the next book today. But it's now 3 am and I have stayed up far to late reading.… (mer)
