The conclusion of Michael Harthino's journey begins with his return home. Michael is certain of what he must do, but not how to do it. His brother Johan sits on the throne and his wedding is imminent. Michael will need allies to stand against Johan and the mage queen Alanrae.

The final entry of the Needle Ash trilogy is more action packed than the previous two books. There is rarely a moment when the plot isn't moving, and the interactions between the characters feels natural without the cheesy dialogue from the first book. There are still some typos found throughout the book, but do not heavily impact the story.… (mer)

The King is dead, and the traitors still at large. Michael continues his search for the assassins and who they are working for, with the mage Sharona at his side. His brother still does not believe his suspicions, no matter what Michael says or finds.

Book 2 picks up right where book 1 left off. Magic takes a more prominent role, along with the parallel world that exists. The actions scenes are still well detailed without slowing down the book. We get to see more of Michael's character is developed a bit more with his internal conflict with the choices he must make.… (mer)

Michael Harthino is prince and cavalry officer, fighting in a war to help his father conquer a neighboring kingdom. However, he makes a decision that results in the loss of his military commission and titles. Several of his officers were also decommissioned in the fallout, including the socially clumsy mage Sharona. Both must work together to find the traitor in the King's midst.

Short and sweet, this is a great set-up for a trilogy. Likable characters, and some well-detailed action. While liked by his men, Michael's honesty and blunt manner make him a poor politician. Sharona seems unaware of some basic manners, coming off as rude toward the nobility. There are a couple of illustrations in the book. Unfortunately some typos are also present.… (mer)
