What is my friend Kuma-Kuma Chan doing with his day. This delightful, quiet book tells readers exactly what he is doing, in simple sweet language and pictures.
This is a book that is very simple. The story is a few sentences per page, the illustrations are small, muted and rather boring. The story talks about a boy traveling by train, bus and foot to visit Kuma Kuma, a small bear. They eat, drink tea and watch television before the boy returns home. Not much to hold a young child's attention.

Unlike the first two books about Kuma-Kuma Chan, which were originally published in Japan some years before being translated into English and published in the USA, Kuma-Kuma Chan's Travels was first published this year (2017) and translated at the same time. Obviously Kazue Takahashi's ursine creation has found his way into western hearts! I enjoyed the narrative here, which is more a list of Kuma-Kuma Chan's imaginary voyages, than a linear story, and (as always) I found the bear himself very cute. Recommended to anyone who has read and enjoyed the first two books about this inimitable bear.… (mer)
