I like this book because it is a traditional book. I have read this book numerous times and each time it takes me back to when I was a child. This version of the book is read through the third person so we are seeing what is going on in the story. The plot is well organized because you can read and feel how in the beginning the story is calm and when little red ridding hood meets the wolf you can read and feel how there is a suspense twist to the story. The message of this story is not to trust strangers.… (mer)

In the edition published in the early 1950s, this old work brings back memories. From it, I learned my nursery rhymes. Having come across a copy recently,I enjoyed the old fashioned illustrations. There's no way to rate a book like this, so I will let sentiment speak.

I thought this book would be offensive, as it was written in 1935 and is an old book online at the Rosetta Project, but I was surprised as it was thoughtful and informative. The author made it clear that Micco would not have been at home anywhere else but the Everglades. Also, Micco did not attend school and the author did not appear to think this was wrong in any way. I thought I would find that the author Vernam would refer to the Seminole lifestyle in a condescending way, but he did not do that anywhere in the story. I would use this book to illustrate how the Seminoles used to live to fourth-graders in a school curriculum.… (mer)
