Rich in historical events and colorfully written, this fascinating account of women in the church spans nearly two thousand years of church history. It tells of events and aspirations, determination and disappointment, patience and achievement that mark the history of daughters of the church from the time of Jesus to the present. The authors have endeavored to present an objective story. The very fact that readers may find themselves surprised now and again by the prominent role of women in certain events and movements proves an inequality that historical narrative has often been guilty of. This is a book about women. It is a setting straight off the record -- a restoring of balance to history that has repeatedly played down the significance of the contributions of women to the theology, the witness, the movements, and the growth of the church. whilst nice to have info from Christian theological perspective this books really fails to engage with anything not really based in that (especially 'new age' in which it tries to stir up a bit of moral panic that is laughable with time between it now)

Like Katie, the author was raised in a poor home without any luxuries and experienced some of the frustrations that Katie herself felt. Much of what was written about Katie was written by Martin Luther. She was not well liked by many of his friends, but he cared for her, listened to her and respected her. Without her influence, the reformation may have been very different. This book is found on the library shelves under the number B/Lut.… (mer)

Quite engrossing. I almost gave it four stars for its theological latitudinarianism, but it really brings the History of Christian (in quite a wide sense of ‘Christian’) missions alive.
