Victor Ullman

King was an anti-slavery English clergyman who moved to America, married into a Southern slave holding family, inherited slaves and then struggled with his conscience. The result was to move his freed slaves to Canada where he created Buxton Settlement as an experiment to show how the black man if given equal opportunity would be as successful a businessman or farmer as any white man. This work is also a study of the negative social & political consequences of slavery in US history.
