Danny Flynn has returned home from three tours of duty. He suffers with severe PTSD. He's not sure he can be a part of society ever again. He's afraid he might hurt someone when flashbacks occur. Alex Dugan served along side Danny and wants to help him. He encourages him to join a veterans' group from Whitcomb University, where Danny plans to be a student in the fall. Will he become part of the group or continue in his solitary existence.

I have read the other two books in the series (Battlefield of the Heart and Trust of the Heart) and loved both stories, so when I saw Wounds of the Heart, I knew I wanted to read it. After reading it however, I really feel like this should have been a prologue to Battlefield of the heart or a free introduction to the series. I'm sorry to say there's not really much content except an introduction to the folks you find in Battlefield of the Heart. In my opinion you don't need to read this to enjoy the rest of the series. I didn't think it added anything extra. I do however love the cover.… (mer)

Josh Teague is still haunted by memories from his time in Iraq. He's worked through a lot of things and is able to be a stable influence to his friends who are also vets. His desire is to find the girl God meant for him so he can love and share his life as well as the memories with her. He thinks Leann Robak just might be that person. But if he's honest with her about his moods and memories, will she stay with him? Leann Robak has abandonment issues because her father left when she was young and now her mother announced that she will be in Europe for Christmas. Josh invites Leann to spend Christmas with his family. She's excited but can tell he's holding something back. Can Josh trust Leann with his memories and can Leann trust Josh not to abandon her?

I really loved this story. We met Josh Teague in Battlefield of the Heart and I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know him better. What a great guy! You couldn't help but love him. Leann was such a loving person despite her insecurities. The author does a great job of allowing the reader to listen to each of their thoughts without taking away from their personal interaction and dialog together. I absolutely loved the Teague family. What loving folks they are, who just enjoy being together. It was fun to spend Christmas with them. The message that the Lord is always with us and working all things together for good was encouraging. Though I liked the ending, I really would have liked an Epilogue. I love relationship-driven stories and especially like lots of interaction between the lead couple. Battlefield of the Heart and Trust of the Heart both have that. I have really come to love the folks in these stories and am hoping that the author will have more in this series. I would love to see it continue!

This wasn't the greatest on the list of books I read this summer (which is a lot of books) and, quite frankly, the heroine annoyed me. The relationship between the two lead characters was a bit too dramatic and the writing style was a bit redundant.

What was fascinating was the topic of veterans adjusting to civilian life, from college educations to recovering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. I'm glad I read this because of the insight it gave into the emotional, physical and spiritual struggles of men and women who have served our country, and would recommend it simply on that basis.… (mer)

Cindy Waymire is a college senior whose looking for a topic for her sociology paper. While headed for the student union one day, she meets Danny Flynn, in a most unusual way. Danny is an Army vet in his first year of college. Cindy decides to write her paper on how soldiers integrate themselves back into civilian life. Danny and all his veteran friends are very supportive and agree to help her with her research. Cindy and Danny are very drawn to one another but Danny has some serious issues with PTSD and flashbacks. To Cindy, it's kinda scary but when he's stable, he's the most loving, protective, attentive man she's ever met. Her feelings for Danny are strong but can she handle all that comes with loving him?

Wow! Such a powerful story. I don't think there is anyone out there who isn't familiar with PTSD, but unless someone you know is dealing with it, it's just a term. Battlefield of the Heart shows you what the reality of dealing with PTSD really means. How it affects the person who has it, as well as their family, girlfriend or spouse and friends. It shows how powerful love and support can be and the difference it can make in someones life. I love relationship-driven stories and that's just what I found here. I got totally lost in the lives of these folks, which to me, means great writing. I don't know if I would be as strong as Cindy, but when you're where God wants you to be you feel peace, just like Cindy did. She truly felt that the Lord wanted her with Danny. God gives each of us unique strengths and, looking at it from Danny's point of view, you understand how thankful he was that the Lord sent him Cindy. This really was a beautiful and inspirational story that I would definitely recommend. I hated to see it end and would love to have a follow-up of Danny and Cindy as well as their friends, who really became my friends too. Battlefield of the Heart is the perfect title for this unforgettable tale.
