I enjoyed John Whitworth's refusal to follow critical fashions: on the contrary, he teaches us from the best of modern and classical forms. He is catholic in his approach and recommends serious sonnets and funny light verse.
He insists that poetry is a craft to be learned, and that nothing is lost by playing with different forms. Out of playing and experimentation good poems will grow.
