- Joanna Wiszniewicz was the daughter of a Polish Jewish family. She graduated from the music high school in Warsaw, specializing in the flute, and earned a degree in Polish literature from Warsaw University. She taught English and worked for many years as a researcher with the Jewish Historical Institute, with emphasis on the history of the Jews in Poland, especially the children of Holocaust survivors. She traveled and lectured widely, and her articles were published in periodicals such as Jewish History Quarterly, Karta, Midrasz, Gazeta Wyborcza, and ResPublica Nowa. She was the author of From Poland to Israel: Interviews with the 1968 Generation (1992), A Life Cut in Two: Stories of the March Generation (2008) and And Yet I Still Have Dreams: A Story of a Certain Loneliness (2009). She died at age 61.
