"I consider it is one of the most important duties of parents that they should see that their children are taught to swim as soon as possible -- it depends entirely on the physical condition of the child at what age he or she should start.
Why I appeal to the parents is because they have the shaping of the young life, and if this duty of teaching the child to swim while it is young is neglected, it is very seldom taken up in later years with any amount of success. Thousands of our best manhood were lost in the Great War, through the neglect of the parents to realize one of their most important duties -- that of teaching swimming."… (mer)
