This memoir was competently written, and the story is heartwarming. I suspect the author's family is very grateful to have such a thorough history available to them. As I am not related to the author, I found the history to be a little too thorough. Also, I found the choice of third-person present-tense to be distracting. One thing this author does particularly well is set the scene for the different time periods . . . e.g., what it was like in the 70s to search for family members, what it was like in the 80s to telephone someone, and so on.… (mer)
