Larry Yeagley shares experiences from what he calls the most rewarding work in the world. He writes of pulpit pounders, dog funerals, fundraising, and frigid baptisms. Meet the man with the 16-gauge shotgun who asked for a dunkin', a despairing woman named Sunshine, a tatooed ex-convict who learned to care tenderly for his abusive father, and scores of other real-life people with real needs.

A woman called Larry Yeagley for months after a freak accident that killed her son. "Am I doing something wrong?" She asked. "I still have real strong pain, and I think about Andy a lot. People give me the impression that I'm sick because I still think about him."Uniquely told her that she'd think about her son the rest of her life. Not to think about him would be to forget herself, because he was a very real part of her.;A loss -- whether it be of a loved one, a career, or anything else of importance -- shapes the rest of a person's life. Dealing with such issues as divorce, loss of home, and the emotional pain of problems that simply will not go away, he shows how we can successfully cope with primary losses and secondary losses, or the loss of all those things in our life entwined with the primary loss. When a loved one dies or leaves, for example, we also lose all those things that we did with the individual, and we may spend the rest of our lives discovering and coping with the secondary losses. We may feel unending guilt or regret over things we wish we had or hadn't done. Yeagley also discusses the constant grief endured by caretakers such as nurses, physicians, and the families of sick and dying persons, and offers practical ways to deal with it.… (mer)

Listening love may violate all the workshop concepts of soul winning but it builds a framework in which the Spirit of God can operate. He God taught me that listening love is weeping with those who weep and rejoicing with those who rejoice. He taught me that listening love is the window on God's unconditional love, a window that must always be open to all in the sphere of our influence
