And so I now have the answer to the question I had not thought to ask: What if Fullmetal Alchemist were only five volumes long and really, really dumb?

This unremarkable series wraps up with random, nonsensical things happening to characters who never really mattered to me. If it had sound, it would have been very loud, like a blockbuster movie directed by Michael Bay.

Things continue to move along ridiculously quickly as the hero completes his training and surges into the very heart of the empire, finding another of the star heroes on the way. The cast suddenly doubles in size, and I'm already struggling to keep up. I'm sure it's just a translation thing but the side character names are all starting to blur together: Shoukou, Shouka, Chouka, Kouchou, Shokaku, Toukako. I feel like it would be the equivalent of reading an English book where the characters are named Bob, Rob, Bobbi, Robbie, Robby, and Robert.

This series seems to have run during the middle of Hiromu Arakawa's Fullmetal Alchemist series and for this side gig she has simply drawn the main villain, Kierou, as King Bradley with a scar where his eyepatch should be. I don't think this book was getting her full attention . . .… (mer)
