Om migDorothy Hinkle Memorial Library at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Pensacola

Om mitt bibliotekA small, private collection of donated works on Unitarian Universalism, spirituality, world religions, philosophy, psychology and personal growth, and women's and minority experiences. Lending available to Members and Friends of the church.

Dorothy Hinkle, for whom the UUCP Library is named, was the Treasurer of the Pensacola Unitarian Universalist Fellowship for many years, was involved in numerous committees, and was the Fellowship's Librarian. She followed Judy Freeman, Kathryn Pekor, and Nancy Kuykendall in this role. The library was her love. She was a petite, quiet woman, a giant in a little body, meticulous, patient, determined and an inspiration. She spent untold hours in the library cataloging, filing, and organizing.

The desk in the library belonged to Bill Pallme. He was a lawyer for the New York Port Authority. He retired once to practice in the Virgin Islands, then retired again to Pensacola with his wife, Ellen. He was a learned man who voiced the opinions of a well-read gentleman. It was his wish that his desk be placed in the library, and symbolizes a tradition of reading, contemplation, and deliberate thought that will live on for future Unitarian Universalists.

The PUUF Charitable Trust provided the funds to purchase the bookcase materials. The bookcases are oak and were handcrafted by Victor Musial.
