My library, which I'm still working on, consists mainly of history and fiction books. The fiction books include lots of literature from the modernist period (my personal favorite), as well as plenty of 20th century U.S. fiction and lots of contemporary fun reading. The history books are mostly American, although there are a fair number of books about modern China. Larger catergories include books about the Cold War, the Eisenhower administration, and the Vietnam War. I am also very interested in the civil rights movement and the history of race relations in America, and have a growing stack of books on women's history.

I'm 32 and a recent PhD in American History; I specialize in foreign relations. When I' not sitting around agonizing over how best to make my dissertation into a book, I teach at a local university. I like to assign fiction and memoirs to my history students to make history more accessible and interesting. This may be because I'm a fiction fanatic; I doubled in history and english as an undergrad and secretly hope to find a job in an American Studies department someday, so I can guiltlessly combine two of my favorite passions.

Non-academic hobbies include knitting, yoga, cooking, and skiing. I have a beautiful daughter, an amazing husband, and a cute shih-tzu. Life is full and happy right now!
