Om mitt bibliotek
Together we bought books as central to our lives -- and the collection goes back further as it includes Ellen's college books and books she took from her parents' house. We've built our lives out of our shared worlds of books. "Our books, dear Book Browser, are a comfort, a presence, a diary of our lives. What more can we say?" (Carol Shields, Swann).
Om mig
Ellen is a literary historian-scholar, writer, and college teacher, now widow; with Jim Moody, her husband of 45 years, she built a library to live in, through, and by his side. He has been dead over 8 years now. She loves and still buys books, reads French and Italian. Ellen has written and published a book about her experiences in cyberspace reading Anthony Trollope with other people: Trollope on the Net. (The reader will find many books on Trollope in the catalogue and online essays on cyberspace linked into her homepage.) She also published a scholarly affordable edition of Charlotte Smith's Ethelinde; or, The Recluse of the Lake (first published 1790) for Valancourt Press. Finally she has published essays on film adaptations of Anthony Trollope (two in two different volumes) and the French source background of Jane Austen's novel (one), beyond essays in peer-edited journals, ordinary periodicals, newsletters, group blogs, websites &c. on a variety of literary topics. Jim was a mathematician turned computer scientist. He opened this account, began the catalogue and loved to collect books.

Switch to first person: So I keep him alive by doing what he would have liked -- the memory of him and all he left me sustains me. He loved music and I have many music books; the science, math, philosophy and more historical sections of our library were bought by him. We both loved and bought poetry, books of letters, memoirs, biography, and travel books. "La bibliothèque devient une aventure" (Umberto Eco quoted by Chantal Thomas, Souffrir). My life is a continuation of our play without him there. I see him in my dreams and experience him in my memories. I keep our library alive. Rien a faire?

Stay for me there, I will not fail
To meet thee in that hollow vale.
And think not much of my delay;
I am already on the way,
And follow thee with all the speed
Desire can make, or sorrows breed.
Each minute is a short degree,
And every hour a step towards thee.
At night when I betake to rest,
Next morn I rise nearer my west …
-- Henry King, after the death of his "matchless friend," his beloved wife

Those who are left are different people trying to lead the same lives … (Winston Graham, Warleggan)
