Personal Information
I previously took a Young Adult Literature course while completing my Specialist Program in Middle Grades Education from Columbus College during the summer of 1992. I remember the culminating activity was to dress like our favorite character from a book we read, and I dressed as Mr. Griffin from the book Killing Mr. Griffin because it was the easiest costume for me to wear. I am a 6th grade language arts teacher, but I do not use YA literature in my classroom. However, I did use two novels last year, Harriet Tubman and Number The Stars. My students enjoyed both of those books. I do not currently have a favorite YA author. However, I did enjoy Forever by Judy Blume. My daughter Meredith is 18, so she is a YA. She will graduate from high school this fall. She has read all of the Harry Potter books, and she enjoys reading a variety of books. I am very excited about this class because I enjoy reading.
