Molntaggmoln, författarmoln

Om migI'm well over age fifty, living with hubby (of over 25 years), son (college student), and cat (orange tabby with an attitude).

My hobbies and interests include reading (of course), music, and bowling. I enjoy travel, and like to purchase books of local folklore (especially the spooky kind!) in places that I visit. But I don't have enough time for reading lately. I thought life might calm down a little bit when I finished my Masters in Library Science in 2020 and settled into my work a little more . . . and then COVID-19 hit a few months before graduation. I never counted on running a library in a pandemic.

I work in a library, so I'm surrounded by books at work. I go home, and I'm surrounded by books there, too -- which probably makes me a typical Library Thing member!

I'm most active in the 75 Challenge where I maintain a thread of all my reading.

Om mitt bibliotekThis catalog contains books I own ("My Library"), books I've read that I used to own ("Read and Recycled"), and books I've borrowed and read from various sources, most often, the public library ("Read but unowned"). It also contains a few books that are strictly my husband's, and a category for my son's books, too. My "Unread" category contains books I've already gotten my hands on that I want to read. The "Ever-Expanding List" is my list of items I want to read, owned and unowned.

I've noted in various collections books that I want to read which are or are not available in various public library sources available to me. My "Wishlist" has evolved into a list for the books I am seeking that aren't readily available through the library sources I can access -- the ones for which I browse book sales and bookstores -- and those for which I haven't had time to look for a library source.

I own many books that I haven't gotten around to reading yet; there are probably some that I'll never get around to reading. But I keep buying books, and reading books from the public library. My "read but not owned" collection contains some of my favorite books.

Note: "Unread" means unread by ME. Others in the household may have read these books.

A word about my ratings system: I don't have one. It's all a knee-jerk, flying-by-the-seat-of-the-pants effort. Each time I go through my library and note relative ratings of one book to another, I realize how arbitrary I am in granting stars. And if my average rating is rather high, it's because (except for more recent reads since I joined LT) I'm rating the books that are memorable -- and the good ones tend to stick with me! (Some books are memorable because they are truly awful, but I am fortunate to avoid reading many of those!)

I try to give ratings to all books I read, But let me be clear: the fact that I give a book a good rating doesn't mean that I agree with its point of view. I read a wide variety of books, written from a wide variety of POVs. I can appreciate the work of those with whom I differ on various grounds.
