I joined the group a while back but only just getting round to starting my thread.
I posted somewhere that my Orange January book will be The Siege and waiting in the wings will be Fingersmith.
Here are the Orange books that I've read in the past couple of years, I enjoyed every one of them too.
2009
The Rehearsal by Eleanor Catton
The Secret History by Donna Tartt
The Vintner's Luck by Elizabeth Knox
2010
Wolf Hall by Hilary Mantel
Fugitive Pieces by Anne Michaels
The Blue Flower by Penelope Fitzgerald
Small Island by Andrea Levy
An Equal Stillness by Francesca Kay
The Little Stranger by Sarah Waters
The Lacuna by Barbara Kingsolver
When we were bad by Charlotte Mendelson

Oh, I loved Fingersmith! Such a clever, fun book. And I really must get my hands on The Siege...

I saw the movie The Vintner's Luck. Very bizarre yet strangely compelling story. Didn't realize it was a book. Would be interested in reading it.

Welcome, Kerry! I will be reading The Siege this Orange January too. =) Can't wait! ~Jill

I'm looking forward to The Siege, everyone seems to have loved it. Fingersmith has been on my tbr pile for several years now so is a must read for the year.

#3> The Vintner's Luck sat on my tbr pile for many years and I finally read it because they were making the movie. However I didn't see the movie in the end because it got such terrible reviews, I'd describe the book as compelling but strange. There's now a sequel as well. I've enjoyed her other books as well.

I really enjoyed The Siege and think it will be a lovely winter read. Enjoy!

Fingersmith and The Siege are both on my TBR/wishlist but I don't think I will get to them in January. Hope you enjoy them :-)

I just ordered a copy of The Siege at PBS (having wavered between "acquire" and "wait" for a long time), and it is coming from Brenzi. Small world!

The Siege was among my top 10 reads this year so I'm sure you'll enjoy it. I enjoyed The Little Stranger, The Blue Flower, and The Lacuna as well. I look forward to your thoughts on those you read.

Hi Kerry, Fingersmith, which I read for Orange July last year, made my Top 10 last year. Great read!

I got one of my Orange books via PBS from Laura. She sent me The Outcast. We LTers are all over the place.

>11 brenzi:: oh yeah! I remember that! I've had a few other "surprise swaps" with LT members, where I don't realize it's them until I print the label. Just sent a book to Stasia/alcottacre last week in fact.

Hello Kerry, I hope you are getting on ok with The Siege. I don't have that one yet, but I hear good things about it.

Well, I've been almost too embarrassed to post in here as it took me most of the month to get started on my Orange book. Anyway I finished The Siege yesterday and liked it very much. I think I was expecting a little more than I got from the book because it had been generating such great reviews, so I need to simmer in my thoughts on the book for a while. I think it was the quietness of the book that was unexpected.

Don't feel bad - I host this darn thing and can't get past the middle of Orange Book #2! =) And it's not the book's fault. Just so busy! But having fun - and I hope you are too!

I've been loyally collecting Helen Dunmore's books for years. But I have yet to read one of them! I have read a few stories, so I keep collecting: I should make a point of reading the one you've chosen for Orange July.

Hmm, I recently read Gail Jones' Sorry and for Orange July I'll probably just go for the big one and read The Tiger's Wife. I attended sessions for Aminatta Forna, Jones and Obreht at the Auckland Writers and Readers Festival last month so have been keen to dip into their work.

Only managed one book for July, The Tiger's Wife which I loved. I've got The Memory of Love down to read next and will probably save Great House for January.

Ohh Kerry! Glad that I popped by! I too am reading The Siege by Helen Dunmore for this Orange January! It's excellent so far! In fact I'm loving it so much that yesterday I picked up the second book in the series The Betrayal by Helen Dunmore for $7.99. Such a bargain! :)
