We've just gone through a major life change that culminated in moving to a very small house, which is yet waiting for us to get bookshelves built. Meantime, my books languish in boxes. Realistically, I'm afraid that shelf-building and box-unpacking will interfere with actual reading. So, I won't set myself up for failure by setting a goal of 121 books. My goal will be about half that.

Since I had a lot of packing help from the munchki, my book boxes aren't consistently marked as to their contents. My categories, since I don't know which boxes hold which, therefore, won't fall into genre, time-line, geography, awards, or any of the other fancy category selections I've been reading about here. (How OCD am I? I've just spent a 52 page document of copy/paste from some of these interesting category threads in order to give myself ideas for my first category challenge, and then end up with this!)

I'm going to make things easy on myself and aim for half of my challenge reads to come randomly out of boxes, and half to specifically search out from the library. I'm a late-comer to this challenge, but shall count backwards to my January reads. I'll call it my “Modified 11 in 11 Challenge”.

Goal: 62 books

FROM THE LIBRARY – Categories 1 through 10:

One of my favorite pastimes on LT is review surfing, so I end up with a lot of notes of member recommendations/reviews that struck a chord with me and caused me to wishlist a book. Of the member reviews I've discovered so far, these reviewers ended up with the most notes in my catalog. (Each of these members have public reviews, so I hope they don't mind my bringing attention to their names in this way.)

What THEY liked:
(Goal: 32 books from this category division; distribution commiserate with cataloged notes.)

Progress:
As of 3/31/2011: 7/32 = 25 to go.

Welcome to the challenge, & I hope your unpacking goes well. It can take years. ;) I like the idea of categories based on other LT members.

I also really like your category based on recommendations from other LTers. I have kept a book of recommendations that I have gotten from threads here, and now use the WishList feature and note from which LTer I got the recommendation. I'll have to use that category in the future!

cammykitty/12: especially if I waste all my time on LT instead of in a box!

LisaMorr/13: I always like to hear how other people manage their recommendation lists. I peeked at your tags page and see that you do it that way, too. Your rec by memberA is akin to my boLT rec memberB (because of LT recommendation) or boLT rev memberC (review). But, dagnabit! I hate how that clutters up my tag page. So, periodically, I go move all those tags into comments. But such is my penchant for reading reviews that the tags proliferate again! I hope that some time all those RSI discussions about extra fields for our catalogs pays off, with a place to store that information!

Don't be so hard on yourself. Your grade is a solid B - an 85 (if I counted correctly when I averaged your grade, and I think I did).

No one can flunk their own challenge..... I am pretty sure that is one of the rules. Just think of all the great books you read over the year. And besides, 10 books off is pretty good in my books!
