Hi pollysmith and all, I am on Long Island, NY and am drying out from the big storm. It's about 40 out. That's 10 to 20 degrees off normal. Spring is slow in coming. My forsythia and PJM rhodies are about to bloom. I think my star magnolia was blasted in the last snow and will not bloom this year. :-. The daffs are just beginning to bloom as well. On a more troubling note, for the first time since our dog died, we have rabbits! My hostas are being eaten as they begin to grow. Oh well. We are still waiting for warmer weather - and the sun!

I'm in Minnesota, and this past weekend it finally warmed up to normal (actually, above normal, but before then it had been in the 30's -20 degrees below normal). We finally have spring this week. It's supposed to be in the 60's through the weekend. :)
The forsynthias just started blooming on Saturday. Crocuses are probably just about to bloom any day. Daffs are halfway up, and I think early tulips should start blooming this week.

Yes, My daffodils and tulips are up and blooming and some crocus are still around. We had a warm spell and then a freeze but everything seems to have come thru okay! I've got my seedlings thriving and they will be so ready to put out in about three weeks if the weather holds. Glad you came thru that awful storm, florahistora!

I am in Indiana, and what a beautiful day today was! Finally, it feels (again) like spring! I am noticing a lot of damaged plants, but hope that it is not permanent. My bleeding heart was the saddest, it was just turned to mush. I am hoping that it will try again. HAPPY SPRING!!!

I am in upstate NY, near Binghamton, and we are still watching the foot of snow melt. Expected high today is 41F, but it looks like we will get Indiana and Minnesota's weather by the weekend.

New Jersey, Zone 6, unseasonable cold still. Very few spring flowers. I just posted pictures comparing last year to this year in my blog. It's not pretty!

Happy Spring to all - finally. CCG, this coming week's warmth will thaw hearts and earth! I spent hours yesterday transplanting, moving, fussing, mulching etc. My spirits are greatly improved!

Note to all, visit CCG's blog (access through her profile page) to see a depressing picture of spring snow!
Kudos to you, though, CCG, for your nomination in the Mouse and Trowel blogger awards. I have been following your blog for a while and I would like to especially thank you for your help to newbees in the gardening blogging world.

Florahistora, thank you for your kind words. I see you have recently started a blog yourself. Indygardener also uses Blogger and perhaps she could help you with some of your difficulties. I understand that, even if you do everything correctly, Blogger doesn't always cooperate.
The snow, btw, is just about all gone, and the daffodils have started blooming. Yay!

After two weeks of glorious spring sunshine over here the rain has returned - on past year's performance it'll be damp now till the end of may! Good for the plants - but not much fun for weeding!
14OldRoses
Gee, I think rain makes weeding much easier. The plants come right out of the ground without any resistance. It's especially great for dandelions. I can get the entire root out so that it doesn't come back.

#14 easier, yes - just less fun. I prefer to weed with the sun on my back enjoying the garden at the same time. Murky overcast skys and drizzle just doesn't have the same appeal. The lawn grows like bamboo but is too damp to cut .... I'm sure we'll get sun again sometime.

>11 ColdClimateGardening:,12 Thanks for the encouragement. I will try to get over the initial frustration and just keep at it until I get it. I'll take you up on your offers of help.
As to the weather - all is glorious! The garden changes from morning to night. Fern fiddleheads are the most dramatic growers at the moment. I feel the shift from winter's reading about gardening and actually gardening!
