Which Farley Mowat book (Children's or adult) is your favourite and why?
Personally I started by reading My Discovery of America and Lost in the Barrens. I have however been putting together a collection of his books when I spot them in used bookstores, and have apparently close to 20 books in my collection!

The only one I remember reading is Never Cry Wolf which I liked.

Owl's in the Family is by far my favorite. I love that book, and read it to my kids. One of them asked about a sequel, because they wanted more owl stories.

I must confess to not being a fan of Farley Mowat. The only book of his that I have read is High Latitudes and that was one heck of a slog. I read it as part of our Canadian Cross Country read.

May I recommend My Discovery of America? Short, and hilarious.

#4: Your judgment is good. Mowat's star is steadily fading.
I feel his best book was And No Birds Sang.

I love his biography of Dian Fossey Woman in the Mist

Coincidentally, I'm going through my mom's book collection and I have a stack of Farley Mowats in the corner to reshelve. I've only read Lost in the Barrens myself, but I have The Dog Who Wouldn't Be set off to the side to read since I like reading dog books.

I think the book that affected me the most was A Whale for the Killing but for the lighter side I love The Dog Who Wouldn't Be and The Boat Who Wouldn't Float.

I just hit the Mowat clunk in my mom's collection. I can post a pic later if people want to see the covers. I'm grabbing a couple to take with me when I head back to home #1.

This year I read And No Birds Sang and The Boat a that Wouldn't Float. Both were, good, I highly recommend The Boat that Wouldn't Float if you need an escape read. He buys and has fixed up a boat in the maritimes, and attempts to take it sailing to more tropical climes. Frankly I'm amazed they survived.
