I received Mastiff yesterday and can't wait to get it started tonight, when I finally get home. Anybody else reading it?

I finished it yesterday. It wasn't perfect, but it was very good and a fitting end to the trilogy.

I agree. I think is was the best in the trilogy. The Beka Cooper series isn't a favourite, but after Mastiff Beka herself has become a favourite among Pierce's heroines. I liked her development and the person she became.

I was sobbing at the end when Hmmmm did Hmmmm. I think if you have read the book, you know what I mean. That person is one of my favorite characters! I was so mad at TP, that I swore never to read another of her books. Then I realized that she is going to come out with a Numair book. Then I decided to break my promise. But seriously, for about two weeks after reading it, every time I thought about it I teared up. I even had nightmares!

I really enjoyed it - the Beka Cooper series isn't one of my favorites, but I love watching Tamora Pierce craft so many different kinds of strong women - so many different ways to be strong.

Plus, I like that her heroines don't always end up with their first boyfriend/love. So refreshing.

magelet87 I understand exactly what you meant. I was so shocked I put the book down and walked away I was so upset. I could not understand how that character could ever do what was done.

That being said it was a great twist one I'm sure no one saw coming which made it a stroke of genius. I look forward to seeing what else she comes up with in the future.

Argh! I've been putting off reading Mastiff for a while, it took me a while to reread Terrier so I was waiting to reread Bloodhound. Now I'm going to have to push these two up the TBR list.

Btw, I almost accosted a student in the hallway because she was carrying a copy of Mastiff! She wasn't even my student, but I followed her all the way down the hall to look at it. Obsess much!
