I'll post a new quote as soon as I have time to find one. This thread is where you will find it.

I'm going to try Men at Arms...

I quickly checked in Hogfather and it is DISC. Maybe in the American versions it is Disk; their spelling is different sometimes but Terry Pratchett is English so I will go along with his spelling.

In Wyrd Sisters it is the DYSK Theatre in Anhk Morpork.

I think it's to do with borrowing a witch's broomstick ... Moving Pictures?

It is… but it isn't.

Ok, if not Ridcully then is it Lu Tse? Thief of Time?

I had forgotten about that. There is more unauthorised broom riding than I thought.

No.

Does a broomstick get borrowed up in the Chalk? I can't remember. That's not it though.

Witches Abroad?

189justjim

There are many witches in that book, but none make an appearance in mine!

Back to the stone age. The Colour of Magic?

Not my favourite book and I have never re-read it so its contents are a mystery; although I remember dragons somewhere in it.

Dragons in The Colour of Magic? You must be imagining. (See what I did there?)

No witches, which is good, but no broomsticks either that I can recall. Not TCoM.

Bed now. I'll check back in in the morning.

Weren't there broomsticks in Going Postal?

193justjim
jun 21, 2013, 9:05 pm

There was one, but it was a decoy. It didn't have handlebars.

Bronze age this time. The Light Fantastic?

Indeed it is! Well done.

Just starting at the beginning and working forward. No skill involved but I'm not sure what comes after the iron age so it is a good thing I didn't have to go past Mort.

No prizes for naming the speaker here:

It's not even a weapon, it's just a thing. It ain't for using, it's just for having. That's what it's all about.

Just bumping this thread back onto my home page. Quote:

It's not even a weapon, it's just a thing. It ain't for using, it's just for having. That's what it's all about.

Naming the speaker is what’s getting me. I would have assumed Vimes, except for the “ain’t”. So probably … Granny? Talking to Esk? Equal Rites?

Redigerat: jun 26, 2013, 12:50 am

It is Vimes speaking.

No not Equal Rites.

He's not talking about the gonne in Men at Arms is he?

201pinkozcat
jun 26, 2013, 6:51 am

No, not Men at Arms

And I thought ... I thought, good grief, this is what I'm supposed to carry? And I thought about it, and then I thought, no, that's right. Just this once, someone got it right. It's not even a weapon, it's just a thing. It ain't for using, it's just for having. That's what it's all about.

When someone finally gets around to guessing the book this quote is from it will be time to start a new thread. If no-one gets back here I might even start the new thread myself. In the meanwhile I will keep adding more and more text to bump it back onto my home page.

Jingo?

Not Men at Arms, Roni--I already asked that one.

Beorn has it. It is from Jingo.

Beorn, will you start a new thread please. The link is at the bottom of this page and you just need to change the number from 25 to 26.
