You reminded me of what was almost a ritual in Melbourne in the '70's.

Each year the Popular paper (the Sun) would have a picture of a COP holding up traffic to allow a family of Ducks to cross a very busy & wide street to return to "Albert Park Lake". Very close to the city.

ETA. Oops, corrected the name of the lake, which I have walked around, a few times.
