Hi, my name is Rae, and this is the first time I have joined the 75ers group. I am 21, and I am looking forward to being part of this group. I will confess that I have been in a reading funk lately, so the only books I have read are for a British Lit course. I hope to change that, though, and start reading more again. I enjoy reading paranormal, mystery, graphic novels, and fantasy. Lately I have been more interested in doing other things instead of picking up a book, though I do have some waiting to be read.

Thunder Storm

A storm raged around me
The wind howling through the trees
Rain lashing against the window
As the storm raged around me
The sky was pitch black
Thunder boomed
Lightening flashed
Sending a chill down my spin
Alone and stone cold
Screen door banging back and forth
As the storm raged around me
Unyielding and fierce like an angry tiger
Water running everywhere,
streaming off the roof,
across the yard,
pooling in a ditch
As the storm raged around me

Happy new thread, Rae! I love the photo up top except we need to figure out a way to get your mom in some of these! And I love your poem — as i read it I thought that it perfectly described the weather that we had last night. It was as if you had been here!

>11 Crazymamie: Thank you Mom. It is the only poem I wrote that I loved and my favorite poem in all.

>12 rosalita: Thank you Julia. I agree we need more pictures with my Mom in them, I actually wrote that poem when we still lived in Indiana on a really stormy night like it describes. Its funny that you guys had a storm like that last night I love it every time I read it.

Rae, congratulations on your first ever "new" thread! Love the photo up front - was Mom taking the shot?

As you probably know by now I am one of the few devotees of poetry in the group so it is always nice to find rare kindred spirits amongst our number. Well done!

Hi Rae! I hope you get out of your book funk soon. I have started 4 books and only one has me absorbed. I'll be waiting to see what you think of The Book Thief when you are done. I haven't read it but it looks like it would be something I would like to read.

We had a couple of days of stormy weather. I'm glad because we need the rain, but now it's sunshine and it has actually cooled off. It's usually very hot and humid so I am enjoying our current state.

Have a lovely weekend Rae.

Hey Tina, it was a busy week here as we have a party on Sunday for Dan and Abby's frisbee friends. We spent it cleaning and getting everything taken care of so tomorrow should be great. Today I slept in then did my area still have to wash my dog and then I will be good. Later I plan to watch more of NCIS Los Angeles season 4 as I am addicted to that show and love crime shows in general. Hope you have a wonderful weekend and that your week wasn't too bad.

Hi Rae! Party day! I hope that a nice time will be had by all :)

I like NCIS. I have watched the original one for some time, and when the LA version came on, I was sure that I would hate it. I don't. I really like that one, too, so count me in as a fan.

Take care and enjoy the rest of your weekend!

They will show up around 2, and then things should start till then I am sitting around doing what needs to be taken care of. Birdy and I plan to have our own little party in her room and hope to have fun while everyone else enjoys themselves downstairs. I hope things go well too, and we don't get any rain. Have a good rest of the weekend Karen.

>46 mckait: Hi Kath, lovely to see you here. I hope everyone has fun too we will see. Excellent I started off with the original one too and loved it then saw the LA one. I am so glad someone else loves those shows too, I will and you have a good rest of the weekend as well. I am sure the party will be a good one with all the snacks and drinks we have.

This weekend is off to a great start I got my area cleaned so I just have to wash my dog. I will help my Dad outside today, and who knows what we will do tomorrow. Hopefully it will be nice and a great day full of fun. Yesterday most of us went to the theater to see the second Spider-man movie in celebration of my Dad becoming a full partner and it was awesome. The end is a little sad but also good and we really enjoyed seeing it. Mom stayed home doing her own thing and funnily enough we left here and as we got closer to the theater it was raining there. It rained the whole time we were there and it was pouring when we came out. It didn't rain at all here though while we were gone, luckily it started storming here after we were home.

I saw "Malificent" on Saturday with a college friend of mine and was thinking you and your family might enjoy going to see that one together. That probably doesn't surprise many folks around here though. :)

That sounds like it was a lot of fun. The one thing I miss about Indiana is being close to some of my mom's family. >66 maggie1944: Thank you Karen, always lovely to see you here. The same to you, mine looks like it will be a lazy one perhaps. Oh I loved, loved, loved the Sookie books! richardderus made me read them, and it was wonderful!!!
I hope you like them as much as I did.

I can't swim, due to a weird vertigo thing that makes me feel not good if I try, but I can jump in and cool down and read :) I don't have a pool, my sister does. I can also upend the hose and let it sprimkle all over and that suits me better. My neighbors are used to me watering the garden then watering me :)

72GeezLouise
jun 8, 2014, 10:35 am

So glad you liked the Sookie books too Kath. My mom has recommended them a few times so I decided to start reading them.

I love to swim in our pool, and its fun when all four of us kids get in, Dan and I often pass a frisbee back and forth. Swimming in the pool reminds me of when we used to go to the pool as little kids back in Indiana. It was just down the road from us so very convenient, and it was always fun to go hang out there. We also used to play in the sprinkler a lot when we were younger running through laughing and having a blast. LOL. That cracks me up that you water the plants then yourself. Have a wonderful Sunday Kath, looks to be another hot day here.

jun 13, 2014, 5:07 pm

Hey Connie, I haven't been on LT much this week. My dad is off so we are spending the week doing little day trips. Monday we went to Callaway Gardens which was really neat to see, and we had a lot of fun. Tuesday and Wednesday we stayed home and relaxed. Yesterday we went up to Columbus for a little while and ate at Red Robin. We looked at what shops they had and what else ther was to do before heading home. Today Dad, Dan, and Birdy went to Six Flags for the day, and Mom and Abby went to the mall. I spent my morning at home hanging out. Now the three of us girls are sitting down and each doing our own thing. Tomorrow it will be just Mom and I as the rest of the gang is going on a train ride. I have really enjoyed this week and hope the weekend is great. Have a lovely weekend Connie.

Hello Julia, I certainly did it was nice and relaxing though I missed setting of fireworks like we did every 4th of July back in Indiana. Just yesterday I was informed that there were in fact fireworks set off on the 4th and I heard nothing. I missed them completely perhaps because I was most likely watching the glades on my iPad with my headphones in or maybe not paying enough attention. Oh well I did here some last night so that was nice. Hope you have a wonderful week Julia.

>111 TinaV95: Hey Tina was busy the last two days so didn't get on LT and I am so behind on the threads. I hope to finish the first Sookie book this week and start the next one.

>112 jnwelch: Hey Joe so nice of you to drop by as well. I spent my weekend cleaning up the garage and considering we fit the van into it when we got done working on saturday it is amazing. We had a lot of stuff in there so I wasn't sure how we would get the Van to fit let alone the pris. I have been watching a lot of Bones lately and would love to talk about the latest season but the rest of my family is three or four seasons behind me. I love all those crime shows like Castle and the NCIS ones. I am now ready for season 9 of Bones but I think I will have to wait for the price to come down first before getting it. They left season 8 with a great cliff hanger and I can't wait to see what happens next.

114jnwelch
jul 17, 2014, 11:00 am

>113 GeezLouise: My wife (walklover) is a big Bones fan, too, Rae. Maybe we can get the two of you together some day for Bonesfest. I like Castle and NCIS, too. These days we're quite caught up in the Longmire series.

Speaking of cliffhangers, we want the next Castle season to start so we can find out what the heck happened!

115GeezLouise
jul 20, 2014, 4:53 pm

Now I am going to have to get caught up in Castle to see what is going on I am in season 5. My favorite crime TV show is Unforgettable which I am so glad they didn't cancel permanently after the first season I love Carrie and really want to see the third season might have to but the pass so I can.

116mckait
jul 21, 2014, 3:45 pm

I like the same shows you do, Rae...aside from Bones, which I have heard is good but have never watched. Maybe some day. Right now I am trying to get some reading done, and some reviews written...Just wait till you catch up with Castle! It was quite a cliffhanger for sure!

117GeezLouise
jul 22, 2014, 5:22 pm

Hey Kath, lovely to see you here. Castle will probably be the next show I get caught up in since I have no more Bones to watch for now, it is a great show though I am sure you will like it if you love the other shows I watch.

The other day I saw Birdy watching the parent trap on netflix with Lindsey Lohan and it brought back memories of when I first saw that movie. I watched the older one with Hayley Mills in it and then later after the other one came out watched that one. I loved the original one better and it made me want to see it again. I love how seeing people do things sometimes brings back fond memories of things you did.

118mckait
jul 24, 2014, 9:04 pm

I also like the Lindsey Lohan version of Parent Trap, but Hayley's version is my favorite! I loved the original Parent Trap with Haley Mills. I just love Hayley Mills!Have you ever seen the movie Trouble with Angels? it's a favorite of mine. I should see if I can find it somewhere. It used to be one of those that was on tv all the time, but I haven't seen it in years :) There is a sequel called Where Angels Go Trouble Follows! I liked that one too, but not as much.

119GeezLouise
jul 24, 2014, 10:50 pm

I have never seen Trouble with Angels before I will have to check that out though. Tonight I have been watching Justified I am loving it so far and tomorrow I will be able to watch the Parent Trap with Hayley Mills. This weekend I will be helping my dad so I got my stuff done today and then Sunday I will be able to watch an episode of Unforgettable at 9 p.m. I missed the first four but I will see them once I get the season, have a lovely weekend Kath.

120PaulCranswick
jul 26, 2014, 1:43 pm

Agree with Kath, Rae, that Hayley Mills' version of the Parent Trap was superior to Ms. Lohan's. I actually feel a little sorry for Lindsay in that every false move the poor girl makes is pored over as if the world hinges upon it. When you study her, Rae, aren't you doubly glad that Mamie is your Mom as hers seems to be an absolute train wreck?

Have a lovely weekend. xx

122TinaV95
aug 2, 2014, 1:10 am

I'll third that opinion (or was that a fourth one) that Hayley Mills' version of the original Parent Trap was better than the Lindsey Lohan remake. Sometimes I wonder why they remake a movie when the original was so well done. It just messes it up!

Our daughter loves the Hercule Poirot mysteries and is not so fond of the Miss Marples, Rae, but I love both. Hi there Rae! I have been wondering how you're doing, so I came by to see for myself...and it looks like all is well?

It seems that you enjoy working outside with your dad.... Do you do any gardening on your own? Would you like to?

155GeezLouise
sep 3, 2014, 10:32 pm

>153 jnwelch: Hey Joe lovely to see you. I will check the one out I believe I have it, my Mom got several Hercule Poirot and some Miss Marples and gave them to me when she started collecting the Hercule Poirot in a different style of covers. I loved the ones she first got and was thrilled to have them, I like the way the covers look.

>154 mckait: Hey Kath lovely to see you here. I do not do any gardening really, I used to have a garden spot at our old house, and every year I would get some flowers to plant. I like to care for the plants, and I am currently taking care of an elm tree that was replanted. I mostly do whatever jobs my dad needs done liking treating the entire yard for fire ants or helping build the deck. It takes away things he would have to do if we were not around, and I don't usually mind working outside.

156GeezLouise
sep 7, 2014, 7:40 pm

Okay so today started out hot and sunny like every other day the past week, but this evening we got a major thunderstorm. The thunder was really loud a few times even scaring us all once. The front yard currently looks like we have a giant pond in the middle of it that flows over part of the drive way. The pool is completely filled up and we lost power briefly once. It is so crazy around here but at least we have been able to watch football. It seems like the storm might be winding down now which would be nice. Maybe this thunderstorm will bring some cooler weather crossing my fingers that it will, the other day it rained, and then it felt marvelous out there.

157bell7

I went outside this morning at about 5 am, with the dogs, and Geez! it was cold cold cold (well I did not have any winter or even autumn clothes on). It is doing the Autumnal Dance: cold, or at least cool, at night; very sunny and sometimes warm to hot during the day. I love September in Seattle.

I sometimes miss thecold fall weather in Indiana, I loved seeing the leaves turn different colors. Fall is my favorite season and, our yard in Indiana was stuffed full of trees which made it a pain to mow. Here we only have two trees that turn color, they turn red, and it's better then nothing.

Hey Joe, at the moment I am currently reading Virals which is interesting so far. It is about a young girl who moves to South Carolina to live with a dad she has never known. She is a science geek and hangs out with three other boys that have similar interests. They get caught up in a murder and something unusual happens to them during their adventures. The main girl is the great niece of Temperance Brenan from bones so I thought it would be good. The weather around here is supposed to get warmer again boo, but at least things are going well.

Hey Karen, thats okay, and I am definitely looking forward to the weekend. I will spend Saturday cleaning my area and washing my dog. Sunday is reserved for football and I will definitely be watching the Giants game since they play the Falcons. I hope you have a fabulous weekend as well.

176maggie1944
okt 4, 2014, 1:27 pm

Thank you. In truth my weekends are Wednesday and Thursday, as I work at my grocery delivery service every Saturday and Sunday. People are more likely to put in orders on the weekends, and on Mondays. Funny, huh?

I am doing fine, though, as it is only a 1/2 time job I still have lots of free time. Reading is probably my biggest activity so far on Saturday, and now I'm rearranging some books to make more room for the house mate who has moved in. She will trade "rent" by doing work around the place, stuff I can't do easily. I am very lucky to have such a talented and giving young woman as a friend.

Yeah it is my brother stated that he would rather be physically injured then sick. There times when I would agree with him. Abby has it the worst though my first day was not great at all but after that it was better. Today I am coughing and have a stuffy nose but hope to be fine again by Monday or Tuesday. Hi Rae, hope your Monday is going well so far. The Giants have had me bummed the last few weeks and no mistake. Yesterday was a tough loss, and of course it was terrible to lose Cruz. Ugh. But that's the tough and phenomenal part of being a fan, isn't it? Gotta take the lows because some years we get the highs of a fantastic run to make it to the Super Bowl...

The days here have been getting cool enough for hot cocoa, so I've been curling up in the evenings with that and a good book more often than not. Hope you're enjoying what you've been reading lately!

>185 GeezLouise:. I could see that as very satisfying, Rae. It takes a talented eye and a green thumb to be a successful landscaper, as far as I can tell. Sounds like you have both.

We worked for years on our urban front and back yards, and finally got a professional landscaper with a vision involved. We're really happy with it - among other things, we now have a Japanese willow and birch tree out front, and hydrangeas and a crabapple tree, with decorative "wild" grasses, in the back.

I have been hopeless these last months at keeping up Rae. On this, your holiday, and one for which I am sure the Paradisio has plenty to celebrate, I want to wish you all the best and say thank you for your contribution to the group this year. xx

Thanks Joe, everything is great here we had a lovely Thanksgiving and have gotten the decorations put away. We have put up quite a bit of Christmas decorations already including the tree though we have not decorated it yet. We are giving Mercy a few days to check it out and in the short time it has been up she has become quite fast at climbing it. By the time you realize she is doing so she's sitting in the middle section. For this reason we decided to use ornaments that we don't mind if something gets accidentally broken or something. We are trying to get her to stopping climbing the tree she is very sneaky though. It will be an interesting christmas this year seeing how Mercy does it is her first christmas with us. Hope you have a great week ahead Joe and had a lovely holiday.

Ha! Thanks, Rae. We did have a lovely holiday. I get a kick out of Mercy's shenanigans. You all are smart to enjoy it rather than get annoyed about it.

My family had cats vs. tree dramatics every year until, sadly, we had no cats. Now I have two dogs, and an artificial, small, tree which sits on the table - no drama, but also no belly laughs.

Hopefully, Mercy will learn to love looking at, and smelling, the tree and allow the Christmas traditions to carry on. I hope you all enjoy your Christmas season in Georgia.

Thanks Karen, I hope you have a wonderful Christmas season too. We have put some decorations on the tree, and she has left them alone for the most part.

I hope you all will have a very merry Christmas time!

Hi Connie I will try to post one here or my mom has a couple on her thread. Hope you have a merry Christmas holiday season as well thanks for stopping by. I finally got my small tree up and decorated in my room. I have to watch Mercy when she is in there because she likes to try to eat the branches. It is funny to turn around when I hear a weirdA noise and find her biting them.

Trees and cats! My two big boys love to climb the tree, and so does my wee little Morgan. I have had to downsize to a very small tree to avoid cat-astrophe ! Now they sit around it among the gnomes and the starship Enterprize, and moose. Or I suppose ON those things is more realistic. I have had to glue the mushroom over the head of one of my gnomes 2x just this year! Not sure who to blame for that. '

I am so happy for you all and for the beautiful Mercy, because you found each other... I wish you and your family much happiness for the Christmas season, and always.... hugs.

Hey Kath, lovey to see you here. That is funny Mercy has stopped climbing our tree and likes to get underneath the tree skirt. She thinks it's her tree she will probably be upset when we put it away. Have a wonderful holiday season Kath and hugs back.
