I took my daughter there a few years ago, for her 21st birthday. We had an amazing time, we are both huge fans. So now, she is about to turn 24 and they have added Diagon Alley. Looks like we will be heading back to have another Harry Potter Birthday and check it out! I would be interested in hearing about your experience there!

I haven't visited Florida / Disney area since our wedding, 18 years ago. I'm not in a hurry to go back to Disney, but I CANNOT WAIT to go to Universal, just for the Harry Potter park. I'll probably wait a year or two until Diagon Alley isn't new anymore, and then drag my husband, hopefully in the off-season when there are fewer people there.

We had a Hogwarts Express meetup there in December of 2010 (wow, has it really been three and a half years?!?) when the park was relatively new, and it was a lot of fun. I'd like to see the new Diagon Alley stuff, but have no plans to do so just yet.

I was born and raised about 35 miles from Disney, and I promise you, the off-season is not only the best time to go as far as it being less crowded, but it is much cooler with less humidity while your standing in line! I'm as excited as my daughter is and hope to take her next January. Hope you and yours enjoy your visit :)

We just missed each other! We were there in Oct, 2010

We went pre-expansion, and loved it, but wished it were bigger and there were more places/rides to enjoy. Now that they've addressed both of those, we want to go back.

Went to Wizarding World yesterday. I went to both Diagonally in Universal Studios and Hogsmeade in Isalnds of Adventure, taking the Hogwarts Express between the two. I loved it. I even had a "happy hour" in Diagonally with frozen butterbeer and dinner in the Three Broomsticks. The atmosphere was just incredible, it felt like you were in London.

>7 06nwingert: Awesome!!! I was in Orlando last week for a extremely quick work trip (in and out in 30 hours...), so I sadly missed out. But I do hope to go back sooner, rather than later, especially since our son is starting to hint about going to Disney. :)

I'm attending a conference in Orlando this summer, so am hoping to squeeze in a visit while I'm there.

My sisters and I are heading to the Hollywood one on the 29th!

>10 Renald128: I haven't bought a ticket yet, but the friend I'm traveling with and I were talking today, and we're definitely planning to take a day and do it!
>11 biblioholic29: Ooh, neat! You'll have to tell us all about it!

>9 foggidawn: Missing a chance to visit Harry Potter world is my #1 regret of not going to ALA this summer. Followed very closely by missing out on free books... :(

Foggi and Grk: I am seriously considering going to the June 2017 ALA in Chicago. Any advice?
16foggidawn
>15 compskibook: Be prepared for a lot of walking, have a plan for getting your exhibit hall goodies home (you can ship them on-site if you are flying and don't want to be limited by luggage weight), and make out a schedule beforehand with the sessions you want to attend. Include alternate options, in case your first pick turns out to be not so great. I don't know yet if I will go to that one, but if I do, we will have to meet up!

>15 compskibook: Ditto to everything foggi said! Also, don't feel back walking out of a session if you realize it's not what you'd hoped it would be. Folks have to duck in and out all the time, and there's no reason to stay if you could go elsewhere to catch something else of interest, or just get some quiet. Speaking of quiet, plan downtime. Early in my ALA days, I would plan everything, all day long, and it just wore me out. Now, I plan some downtime between sessions where I find a quiet-ish corner to just chill. I also plan a multi-hour sightseeing break on days when there's the fewest number of interesting programs for my area.

>17 grkmwk: Downtime: yes! I find that I need either the morning, the afternoon, or the evening to be low-key/unscheduled. If I try to pack every day with stuff from morning to midnight, I crash and burn.

So the Hollywood WWoHP is pretty much exactly like the original Florida one (and by original I mean pre-Diagon Alley addition). Ollivanders is in a slightly different place (switched with Gladrags) and that Dueling Dragons coaster or whatever it was isn't there. Other than that there's not much different. One thing they had that I'm not sure they had in Florida (at least not when we were there) was the opportunity to take a picture "inside" the Hogwarts Express. It's one of those they take the picture and you have to pay an arm and a leg for them, but you get three different 8X10s and the digital copies. My 8-year-old nephew was with us and as he's about 1/2 way through PoA he was blown away. It was a lot of fun!

Good morning all. While doing some research on books in the HP universe, I stumbled upon a book that recently came out by Micaela Neal detailing Orlando's Wizarding World of Harry Potter (with photos.) It's a Kindle book, but Barnes & Noble appear to be offering a print copy as well.

Somewhat belated update: I did end up going to the WWoHP in Orlando last summer, and it's well worth it, even if you went back when it was just the Hogsmeade part. The level of detail in Diagon Alley makes it a delight to just walk around and window shop. There are a couple of decent new rides, but for me, the best part of the experience was just looking at all of the cool stuff.

I gave the first two HP to my 8 year old granddaughter this weekend. After an argument at lunch about movie vs. books. (Me: Oh yeah? Tell me about Peeves then!). Anyway, we are doing Disney and HP at Christmastime, and her mom and I thought she should read them before going.

I know WWoHP was going to be great, but I was still blown away! The amount of detail and thought put into everything was amazing! Go if you haven't!

We went in January and could only go one day. We chose to go to Hogsmeade. Unfortunatley, the day was wicked cold, and we were pretty exhausted after 5 days of Disney. OTOH, I did get one of the interactive wands, a replica of Prof. McGonnagall's. My granddaughters and I had great fun using them, and I hope to go back again on a warm day. You're right...the attention to detail is amazing. And as a school librarian, I really enjoyed Seuss Landing as well.
