One of the books I'd read before discovering the list, and a favourite author of mine :(

Historians' obituaries don't always get the same press as well-known authors of fiction. Here are some authors from the list's History section who have passed that I overlooked:

Martin Druon, "The Accursed Kings" starting with The Iron King, 1918-2009

Robert Hughes, The Fatal Shore, 1938-2012

Maria Rosa Menocal, The Ornament of the World, 1953-2012

Simon Leys (i.e. Pierre Ryckmans), Chinese Shadows, 1935-2014

Peter Gay, The Naked Heart, 1923-2015

Bernard Lewis, Islam in History, 1916-2018

Jan Morris, Pax Britannica, 1926-2020

Another one I missed, Mavis Gallant, From the Fifteenth District, 1922-2014. I had no idea she was Canadian. She spent much of her later life in Paris, however, so that may be why.
