Hello and greetings to all!

I have been told that Jeff Vandermeer books are the epitome of Steampunk; any thoughts?

Absinthe Dreams.

I've read The City of Saints and Madmen and Veniss Underground and neither of those has any steampunk elements that I remember. I did enjoy the books though. He's kind of post modern and many people put him in the "new weird" category with China Mieville and a couple others.

That was how I ran across his name as well. Mentioned with Paul Di Filippo (wonky touchstone) as steampunk writers.

Anything by Vandermeer is excellent; not necessarily steampunk, but absolutely brimming with apocrypha and all the piddling horrifically wonderful little details. So. Yes.

I'd put Vandermeer more towards Borges, but taken more literally.

Mieville pretty much is steampunk (hello hissing cities and hybrid sentient species? Yes.) with a political bent, I think.
