another idea for a third cloud

what about a cloud (similar to author and tag cloud) on your profile for original publication dates, so say if you wanted to find all the books in your catalog that were published in the 1950s, it would be easier to find.

For me, I have to tag all my org. pub dates and I just wish there were a cleaner way to find these without having hundreds of books under a single tag. this would be helpful too in recommending books to friends, who want to read something of a specific time period. and I know I'm the kind of person who likes to keep track of what era of books I read in.

It might be easier to make CK:Original Publication Date sortable/searchable.

Fields like Comments, Private Comments, and even BCID are sortable and searchable so you might use one of them for the year. I think this might be superior to tags but it all depends on how you think about things.

James, can you tell me how?

How to sort by BCID ?

On a list view there is a button with an up and down arrow. This lets you define the sorting rules. One of the choices there is BCID in ascending or descending order. You can have a secondary sort as well.

If you have data in BCID, it should work as expected.

Comments and Private Comments are also sort fields. Common Knowledge fields (like Series or Original Publication Date) are not.

You can also just click on the top of any sortable column. Reclick to reverse order.

Yes, well BCID may not be a displayed column until added to one of the display profiles. I didn't want to add confusion on that part.
