Anyone played any of the newer post-Apocalyptic White Wolf games? My gaming group and I are mostly old-school WW fans, and we're getting ready to start a new Vampire: the Masquerade campaign. I haven't so much as even picked up one of the new versions - are they any good?

My group isn't really into the newer WW stuff, though I've had a browse through the books. I think if you've spent quite some time gaming in the old World-of-Darkness, the new one is hard to come to 'fresh', and you just wish you were in the old one anyway.

Is anyone else amused by the fact that the first actual gaming book that we have in common, even on the weighted list, is ranked only #10? Then again, I suppose for most of us our gaming books are far outnumbered by all the rest...

Hi all. Just wanted to chime in as a new member to the gamer group.

I've tried the new WW stuff, at least as a larp. Requiem has a similar feel to Masquerade, Mage is an improvement... Forsaken is bubkiss.

Although I do play RPGs (I am currently playing Talislanta) as my catalogue will attest, I also play boardgames and cardgames and I am interested in books like Sackson's A Gamut Of Games and Knizia's Dice Games Properly Explained as well as books on specific abstract games such as Shogi For Beginners.

Just a heads-up, if you're into White Wolf's line of games (any), we've got a group specifically for that going over at White Wolf roleplayers.

Aside from Changeling: the Dreaming and Exalted, I like Wizard of the Coast's Eberron setting and Urban Arcana setting, Privateer Press's Iron Kingdoms World Guide and Iron Kingdoms Character Guide, White Wolf's Engel setting (German import/cover/translation), and anything steampunk (GURPs, homebrew, modified setting/period, etc....).

"Any good" would definitely depend on what you want from your games. So far I have bought the basic sets for Vampire the Requiem, Werewolf the Forsaken and Mage the Awakening. I have played Vampire and been a ST for Mage.

So far I think that the new rules work slightly better than the old ones, and I like the fact that they have gotten rid of all the ûber-vampires from the earlier editions. I never was much of a Werewolf player, but I have browsed some sets and think I have an understanding of what it was earlier, based on this I think the new Werewolf is better too, BUT you probably will need to get Hunting Ground: The Rockies to really 'get it'. (I got this from RPG.net, and I agree.)

I am not quite so certain about the new mage setting, it seems a little bit flat. (It is difficult to describe better, I hope you know what I mean.) But if you are willing to do a bit of work on your campaign setting and world it will probably work.

My greatest problem with mage is actually the layout of the book itself. For some reason they have made the rote section of the book (spells for those of you unfamiliar with Mage-speak) in very narrow columns with lots of small pictures. This makes it very hard to read because the text is spread out. And to top that they have set the titles in the book in a kind of gold ink that is very difficult to read if the light isn't very good.

Hope this helps. :)

Hi

I just loaded (manually) all my "Other Hands" (was the journal of Middle-earth gaming); and also the copies of "Tradetalk" that I have. I will load up the rest of my "Tales of the Reaching Moon" journals when I have more time.

Hopefully this will save others who have these some time...

The only nWoD book I own is a digitial copy of the core rulebook, Wold of Darkness. I was a big fan of the old system, but I found the settings got a bit limiting and, well, hurley-burley is a good way to put it. There was just so much dogma involved where you couldn't do this because Vampire says that or Mage says that only this can do that. Also, it was a struggle to play characters that didn't fit into the clan/tribe/tradition/kith pigeon holes. I find the new system is a bit more freeform, you'll find a lot of allusions to supernatural phenomena outside of the five usual suspects, which I liked. The rules have changed a bit, but I found it a pleasant change.

That is interesting that you say the oWoD was limiting. I have seen it played so free and loose that even the most unique of snowflake could fit the description of the game being played. (Of course, I played with power gamers who knew how to tweek the rules to their favor.)

Yes the new system is more open, but it has its limitations too.

EGB, I agree with what you said about Mage. It seems they exchanged a system that works for a lack of plot and setting. On the other hand, freedom from the Traditions/Technocracy/Other model might give the ST more freedom to make their own plots.

On an un-mage note, I found Promethus to be a good read, and I look forward to what they will do with the new Changeling.

Has anyone actually run a Prometheus game yet? It brings back fond memories of somebody's homebrew WoD game I found on the early days of the intarwebs way back in high school - based on the Gargoyles cartoon, believe it or not. I haven't picked up a copy myself, is it more golem oriented, or is there a wider range of options?

I know the Gargoyles game you're talking about. Funny, never thought I'd ever hear that mentioned again.

Lampbane: Haha! Did you ever run a game with it? I cherrypicked the good parts for a very short-lived Vampire campaign, and I think the gargoyle players had the most fun.

I think there was talk amongst the group about running a game, but we never got that far. Real shame, considering how weird some of our campaigns got, I might not have minded doing some Gargoyles stuff.

I think the new world of darkness has its good points (you can use it to play a nice off-brand Call of Cthulhu), and it introduces some good new ideas (Prometheans), but I like the old better.

My favorites of the oWoD were Mage: the Ascension and Changeling: the Dreaming. I have the corebooks for the new versions Mage: the awakening and Changeling: the Lost as well as Promethean: the Created and even a couple of supplementary books for Mage and Promethean. I think over-all, the problem with the new versions of MAge and Changeling is that they just don't get it as far as what the old games were about.

I'm new here and actually just trying to catalogue my kids' PS4 games.

How do you add games; can you scan in barcodes (like we can for ISBNs) or do you have to add them manually?

>18 superboy:

That might work, the games are probably on Amazon. It is worth giving it a go. Otherwise search by title on Amazon. If that still doesn't work then it is manual entry I guess.

Under the "Search where?" button, choose amazon all media. it helps pull up "other" stuff.

I am missing game nights soo much. I currently play a lot of fireball island, sushi go and ticket to ride one-offs (like london), but my heart wants roleplaying.

I have Bard's Tale 4 on PC. So, that helps some, but the quests are so open-ended, I spend half my time researching how to find the next step of the quest.

So I found a roleplaying game for the younger set. It is called Starport. Anyone have any experience with it? I played a lot of D&D back in the 80's/90's but I am sorry to say (in case anyone wants to shame me, lol) the rules were not my thing, so I literally just let my brother, the DM, tell me what to roll.

I'm hoping I can make something fun and interactive of Starport with the gamers I have available with me now under our current situation. :) If anyone has resources, let me know. Thanks.

So I entered the video games manually (all 31 of them). Now I'm just collating them into their relevant series and have created several series from scratch.

I've found, for games like FIFA, that there are often multiple versions released in different parts of the world and many of them have been catalogued on LT. Can anyone here help me with combining? I could go to the Combiners group or even do it myself but I thought gamers might know more about which editions ought to be combined and which ones shouldn't be.

Could someone have a look at these? Sorry - the series touchstones don't seem to be working; they may be too new.

FIFA - Video game
Star Wars: Battlefront - video game
Skylanders - video game

And would you say it's better to list game series by number or publication year?

>23 superboy:

Looking at the FIFA - Video game series then some combination can and should be done.

Some of the titles have an 'author' and some do not which makes it a bit more involved than usual.

The trick is to go to each work and 'Add to workbench'. Then when you have added all the works to be combined (in this case I think all the FIFA 20 works can be combined, also the 2 FIFA 19s can be combined) you hit "Open workbench" and then 'Combine works' and follow the process through.

It is always best to "Open workbench" and then to choose "Clear Workbench" before starting this process as works persist on the workbench from browser session to browser session, and even after combining one work remains on the workbench.

If you have any problems you can ask for more help.
