Any other fans of Minette Walters here? I noticed yesterday that after a hiatus of a few years she has a new novel out The Last Hours and it seems to be a complete change of genre.
Has anyone read it yet? Thoughts?

I read her off and on. Mostly library books, but I have a few audios too. I like her. Haven't read this new one though.

I haven't read that one. The only work of hers I've read (listened to actually) was The Cellar and it was one of the most wonderful and quietly terrifying books I've ever read. She's awesome!

I gave my mum The Last Hours for Christmas. Looking forward to borrowing it when she's done!

I haven't read the new book, or even any of the last few, but I went through a phase when I read a lot of her books (The Ice House, The Sculptress, etc.).

What genre is The Last Hours supposed to be?

I haven't purchased it yet Leslie.98 however it appears to be historical fiction as opposed to murder/thriller.

Interesting. I like historical fiction -- I will have to put this on my "to get from the library" list.

>3 tottman: What do you mean by "most wonderful"? I have enjoyed her earlier books, but the last few became more seriously dark and I wasn't happy reading them. Was The Cellar like that?

Yeah, it’s dark. I read it in 16 and thought it might be too much, but it wasn’t. There is abuse described, but it isn’t relished in if you know what I mean. It’s basically a revenge tale and a look at how some monsters are made.

Maybe one day I'll read it. I don't seem to be able to handle some things any more, too old I guess. But I'm getting back into reading and it's working out pretty well in the last few months :)

>8 nhlsecord: It was seriously dark and I thought that was great. Just as >9 Bookmarque: described. I love that sort of story. Also, I listened to the audio version and the narrator did an awesome job. It was chilling.

I see! Were you pleased with the outcome? I guess that's a stupid question.
