Is there a wiki page for this project?

I think I've got a lead on tolkien's library, but I'll need to send a letter and thought I would include a link to info about what's going on here. But, alas! There seems to be no wiki!

No, there's not, as of yet, a wiki. You might send a link to the main group page, or to one of the finished library profiles.

A wiki is a good idea, and if anyone's up for building one, it might be useful.

jan 19, 2008, 12:13 pm don't have to build one. Just use WikiThing and start a page. Expand from there as needed.

I went ahead and started one. I haven't put links to the libraries in yet, but I figured that somebody else could take the foundation and go with it.

Putting the member names of the contributers to each project would be a nice thing to do.

The 'see this thread' comments should be live links.

I've added a heading for proposed libraries. I simply added names that have been thrown out in this group. I only left off a couple of suggested names where it seemed unlikely to find a catalog or if I simply couldn't find any information about the individual in which case it seemed reasonable to me that they wouldn't be of general interest.

There are still a few names on the list that may not warrant the effort of adding them to the project. I figured we can drop any of them if a consensus is reached that they are not of interest.

I notice that the Wiki page is still just a list of libraries, and there's no how-to information. The closest it comes is a link back to this group.

Perhaps there should be just such a guide.

Yes, there should be. I'm working on it, but it's not done yet. I'll have it up hopefully by early next week, but in the meantime if you have specific questions, feel free to ask.

Well once you have the list of books, you just create a new account and enter them. If you want help, post a thread asking for help. I don't see how there's much more to it than that once you've got a list.

Oh, I will be ever so grateful, jbd1, for a guide. Right now, I feel like the blind leading the blind!

Alright, a draft version of the Guide is now up on the Wiki. Have at it. Did I forget anything?

I think it looks great, jbd1, thanks for taking the time for this. Do you think it would be helpful to recommend some of the sources (eg. Library of Congress usually best, amazon not so much)?

Good call! Yes, I think that's a great idea. Will add them.

I think the wiki links have changed and/or URL rewriting rules have changed, so the link above to

doesn't work anymore.
