Below is the current list of members that have identified a ROOT goal for 2018 and how many books they read by the end of June.
Any members who have yet to record a ROOT, have been removed to a separate list until they start. The ticker totals have been adjusted accordingly.
The percentage is calculated and a star awarded for those on target to reach their goals. More stars for farther toward their goal.
If anyone's number is incorrect, please let me know and I will make the necessary adjustments.
So go out there and dig those ROOTs.

Thanks once again Cheli for doing all the work, number crunching and setting up the threads etc. And yay for being back on track :)

Met my goal with my first ROOT for July: The Complete Father Brown, by G.K. Chesterton. I've been reading this since February, so it's good to finally have it finished. All tickers have been updated.

Good to see we're back on track.

I'm getting closer to halfway through my goal but bigger tome like books are coming up and I'm running out of little books to pad my numbers. But I haven't read any manga yet this year either which is what usually helps my ROOT goal. But I am super happy with my reading progress in terms of reading novels.
11Familyhistorian
Congrats to everyone who has met their goal. Yay, I have four stars after my name and it looks like we are doing well getting closer to our goal. Good reading everyone!

Just finished Kanehara Hitomi's 蛇にピアス (Snakes and Earrings) which I read primarily in June but finished in July despite being such a short book (114 pages in Japanese version) since the World Cup took over my life. I need to try to finally gather my thoughts on this one even though I had already seen the movie two times before reading the book.
18Jackie_K
I've added my second for July (#44 overall) to all tickers. I'm not sure if I'll reach my target this month or not (4 more books to go), but if not I definitely will in August.
The book was an ER book which I absolutely loved - Devi Menon's graphic novel Amla Mater.

I am doing better this year than I expected and am surprised that I am 80% towards my goal. I have been making a conscience effort to read books from my own list rather than gathering new titles. I am also trying to finish up several series, so that I can start some new ones. I am now within three titles of finishing the Aurelo Zen series by Michael Dibdin and only have 1 title to read on two YA trilogies that I have started. Then I can start some new ones. The Brother Cadfael will be the first and the Mrs. Pollifax series are two I want to start this year.
21cyderry
>20 benitastrnad: "trying to finish up several series, so that I can start some new ones"
Oh, to be so disciplined! I keep telling myself to do that but then I am tempted by a new series and can't help myself! Maybe that's why I have 200 series I follow and only 38 are finished or caught up! And I have the books for another 20 to start!!!
My only consolation is that I was told that I couldn't die until I finished all my books, so I'll live forever!

I have the desire of >20 benitastrnad: but the discipline of >21 cyderry: when it comes to my manga (Japanese comics) series. There are just so many I want to read and they all look fabulous so I start a bunch but never finish them! And I tell myself I need to read more before I buy more but yesterday I went to the used book store and two series (sold in complete sets) I want are available so I'm thinking of purchasing them after work today. Let's just ignore the fact that by buying them it'll be adding 60 more books to my manga TBR pile!

In my case I am getting close to retirement and I should have more time to read. When I do retire, I am going to do nothing except get up when I want to, go to bed when I want to, drink coffee and read books. I plan on knocking out a bunch of books during that time. After about 6 months of this I will decide what I want to do next.
25cyderry
>24 benitastrnad: I felt that way when I retired in 2005. Since then I've read over 1400 books.
I read between 80 and 95 the first few years but when I joined LT at the end of 2008 my reading skyrocketed! Now I read around 120 each year! My biggest year was the first here at LT with 162 books read - the 999 challenge(9 books in 9 different categories - I completed a double).
Retirement is definitely a blessing when you need time to read books that have waited patiently for so long.

I'm excited to see 3* by my name and I shifted the % ticker with my first read for the month, Notes on a Scandal by Zoe Heller.
I have spent most of the past week packing my books for re-carpeting then unpacking them all. The packing was easy but sorting back into alphabetic order, read and unread and then trying to fit them all back on to shelves has been a mission. It was lovely handling them all again and reminding myself of all the lovely books awaiting my attention though.

I finished my first ROOT for July, The Beautiful Mystery by Louise Penny. Not sure how many ROOTs I will get to this month because library holds keep coming in. That hold button is just so easy to click but why do the books all come at once?
29rabbitprincess
Added my third ROOT of July to all tickers: Captains Courageous, by Rudyard Kipling, which I read as a public-domain ebook.
31HelenBaker
#2 for the month, The Book of Illusions by Paul Auster. I am going to allow myself my monthly library book before tackling the month's challenges.
32MissWatson
I'm back from my holiday with one ROOT under my belt. I fully intend to go back to serious ROOTing, but I bought all those lovely new ones, so may have to settle for ROOT prevention reading in July...
35benitastrnad
I finished my first ROOT of the month. I listened to Barbarian Days: A Surfing Life by William Finnegan. This one was the 2016 Pulitzer Prize winner for biography/autobiography. So often these big prize winners are a disappointment. This one wasn’t. I really liked it.
36Jackie_K
And that's #46 for the year (#4 for July) also added to all tickers. I'm afraid I abandoned it rather than finishing it, but at least it's over with!

>24 benitastrnad: I retired from full time work in January 2017, and love every minute of it. More time to do all the things I love, such as travel with my sweetie, drink coffee, go to the bookstore or movies any time I want, and of course read! Sometimes I disappear into my home bookshelves and just mess around with the books, pick them up and read a few pages, just reminding myself of all the great books I have in there.
41LadyoftheLodge
Just finished my second ROOT for July after returning from Alaska, and well on the way to number 3. I am happy with my progress, since I am at 56% done and got a late start. The Hundred Gifts by Jennifer Scott

I finished a short book of essays that I have had on my shelf for a little over a year. Ex Libris: Confessions of a Common Reader by Anne Fadiman was a fun read and full of great things to say about books and the art of reading. I will be looking for more of her books

Finished another ROOT: Witness the Dead, by Craig Robertson. All tickers updated.
56benitastrnad
I finished up a series! Yeah!! Well, at least until the author decides to write more about this universe. Revenant Gun is the third and final in the Machineries of Empire series by Yoon Ha Lee. I will say two things about this author - he writes a heck of a battle scene, and he threw some plot twists into this one that I didn’t see coming. The result was a very satisfying end to this trilogy.

>54 leslie.98: >60 LadyoftheLodge: My problem with e-books is that I don't necessarily buy a single title at a time. I'm addicted to those Delphi Complete Classics editions, which means the complete (public domain) works of an author in a single e-book file! Try that for, say, dear old Henry James.
62Robertgreaves

I finished reading Jules Verne's 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea while on vacation, which makes one tome down this year as I've been reading mostly short books. I'm also 200 pages into a 900 page nonfiction tome that is really interesting but really great for taking little naps every 10 pages so it's making it a bit of a slow read and now that I'm back from vacation my progress will slow down rather than speed up.
66LadyoftheLodge
Just completed Over What Hill? by Effie Leland Wilder, the second in the series that began with Out to Pasture. The books are written in diary form, and tell about the daily interactions and humorous yet poignant happenings at a retirement home in the South. 4.5 stars, tickers updated!
67leslie.98
I finished 2 ROOTs that were actual 'dead tree' books - Saint Martin's Summer by Raphael Sabatini and Abracadaver by Peter Lovesey.
Just a fun piece of personal information about the Sabatini book - I have owned this since 2009 when my parents moved but it has been in my family since 1924! My mother's uncle owned 6-7 of Sabatini's books (and some other great adventure stories) which passed to her and then onto me.

Mary Ellen Chase, Sailing the Seven Seas, a childrens' history of current-day interest to the Chase aficionado as a novelist but dated (as to political correctness) for contemporary childrens' reading. It's part of an extensive series of childrens' histories which includes two other Chase books which, like Sailing the Seven Seas, fit into a nautical theme for this month's Reading Through Time challenge.

I finished my second series this month! Woot! Woot! I listened to the third and final installment in the Illuminae Files. The third book in the series is titled Obsidio and it was just as much of a thrill ride as the previous two titles in the series by the writing duo of Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff. This is a great Sci/Fi space opera action series. The recorded version was outstanding. I would recommend this series to anybody.

I've been on holiday and other than finishing my library book I've done very little reading, and won't get another ROOT finished before the end of tomorrow. So my total remains at 4 for July and 46 for the year - I should hopefully reach my target in August, only 2 books to go!

I read two nonfiction titles this month.
Ex Libris: Confessions of a Common Reader by Anne Fadiman and Mad Enchantment: Claude Monet and the Painting of the Water Lilies by Ross King. Both were good nonfiction reading and I recommend them even though they were about two different arts. The first was about reading and writing and the second was about the painting of the giant garden paintings done by Monet in the last decade of his life.

I managed to slip in my first manga of the year right before midnight. I've only been reading novels this year which has been fantastic but it would also be neat if this lead to a bit of a manga reading splurge.

Three by Mary Ellen Chase...Quick-read children's books from the late 1950s and early 1960s which will only be of interest to Chase aficionados, but I've been meaning to get to them for ages and this month they've satisfied the "Nautical" theme of the Reading Through Time group as well.
This brings me to a total of 6 for July and keeps my star with 47/75.
