Change of Anne Perry pace; The Sheen on the Silk is a stand-alone historical in 1200's Constantinople and Rome. Much detail, much intrigue, much concentration needed to keep it all straight!

Just about to start the delightfully pulpy-looking Murder Over Dorval, by David Montrose.

Finished The Hollow Girl by Reed Farrel Coleman, the 9th and, I think, last of the excellent Moe Prager series. I am sad to see it go.

False Scent by Ngaio Marsh. Another in the Dead Letter series, which seems to be the covers that catch my eye.

Don't know who suggested I read this book: The Black Hand by Will Thomas but I really enjoyed it, and am thrilled to see it's part of a series that I'd never heard of before. Requesting more from my library today.

Finished The Word is Murder by Anthony Horowitz. Unconventional, but I enjoyed it immensely.

Next up is A Lesson in Dying by Ann Cleeves.

>74 Will Thomas just gets better and better! I am a couple behind in the series, but my favorite of the bunch to date remains The Limehouse Text.

Just finished Murder Over Dorval. I liked it better than the first book in the series (The Crime on Cote des Neiges) but not as much as The Body on Mount Royal. But in all cases, the setting (Montréal in the 1950s) was a major draw.

Next up in crime reading, continuing the private-eye streak, is Black Money, by Ross Macdonald.

A Painted Doom by Kate Ellis. A tad too easy to figure out who the murderer was, but not too bad a read.

It's been a chilly wet weekend in my part of the world so perfect for reading. Finished two different books, both from series that are favourites of mine.

I'm enjoying Behind that Curtain, which is the third in Earl Derr Biggers' "Charlie Chan" mystery series. These books are a lot of fun, and much better than the hokey movies would lead you to expect. Chan's pigeon English is often cringeworthy, but, on the other hand, he is always the smartest one in the room.

I just finished reading IQ by Joe Ide. I thought it was a pretty fun read. I was skeptical of another riff on Sherlock Holmes, but it received so much hype that I finally gave in and read it 3 years later. I don't know if it quite lived up to all the hype, but it was a pretty good yarn. I have it 4 out of 5 stars. I think I will stick with the series.

>22 Roycrofter: The Lawrence Sanders entries in that series are better than the Vincent Lardo ones, IMO, but I will always have a sneaking affection for Archy.

Finished another book in a Canadian mystery series by Anne Emery that I started this year. This one was Cecilian Vespers and I struggled to finish it. Far too much Catholic history, Vatican shenanigans, liturgical discussions, etc. for my liking. By the time I was half way through it, I didn't really care who did the murder-I just wanted it to be solved and over and done with!

Despite feeling under the weather, the stories I'm trying to read for #cloakanddaggerchristmas (a readathon I loved finding earlier in the month) are the following:

See Also Proof as I heart this series!
The Butterfly Conspiracy
A Nest of Vipers via audiobook
As Death Draws Near love Lady Darby!
A Reckoning in the Back Country
Kill Shot
Death on the River* via audiobook
Deck the Hounds
Naughty on Ice
Murder at the Mill

and for a Cosy Mystery Book Club:
Rest Ye Murdered Gentlemen

I love how all of these move from contemporary to historical settings and interweave between Cosy Mysteries, Cosy Historical Mysteries, Suspense and Thriller! Truly a lovely #cloakanddaggerchristmas to me!

Let's see how I do!

(*) I've tried several times but can't get 'Death on the River' to show up in the touchstone area.

My latest reads which I rated 4 or above out of 5 have been:

The Stranger Diaries, by Elly Griffiths
Safe Houses, by Dan Fesperman
The Lost Man, by Jane Harper
Lethal White, by Robert Galbraith
The Comforts of Home, by Susan Hill
Broken Ground, by Val McDermid
Magpie Murders, by Anthony Horowitz
Wild Fire, by Ann Cleeves

I have read a bit of Golden Age mystery fiction lately, but none really good enough to recommend.

Currently reading Anatomy of a Scandal, by Sarah Vaughan and enjoying it.
