I was shown the first 20 minutes of Bleak House today, and I really want to see more. I know I could borrow it from the library, but I think I'm going to just buy it because I can see wanting to rewatch it. Does anyone know how long it is? I've heard it's 15 1-hour episodes, but I've also heard 510 minutes (which I think is about 8.5 hours). Big difference. Has anyone actually watched this and remember how long it took?

Haven't seen it, but 8.5 total hours out of 15 one-hour television programs would match pretty close to correctly. In my experience, a one hour television show is about 40 minutes on DVD without the commercials.

I think the 2005 version was about 480 mins all up (1 episode of 60 mins and 14 episodes of 30 mins each). The DVDs may have special extra features, I'm not sure...
I've seen the whole thing and I reckon it was fantastic! Apparantly the same producer is currently working on a new version of Little Dorrit due out next year. Looking forward to it :)

Here's the BBC page for Bleak House. Apparently, it was originally shown with one 1-hour opener and 14 half-hour installments. No commercials. Total running time, 8 hours for the 15 episodes.

Aaah. Thank you. I looked at Amazon and Imdb, but didn't think about the BBC itself. Doh! Next time I'll remember to check that too. Thanks again. :-)

I watched the first hour of this and was really bored. Which is odd because I love miniseries and I really enjoyed the book. I think it was the unearthly dream/memory sequences that made it feel cheap.
I will have to give it another try though. Everyone who mentions it always gives it resounding praise. I feel like I'm missing out! :-P
