I have always intuitively objected to the theory that the First Americans walked into North America along a rift in the Continental Glaciers of North America ... It just seemed crazy that some of these same people could have reached Tierra del Fuego so quickly ... merely by walking from Asia. Now here we find evidence of peoples populating a location in Idaho at a time when that glacial rift didn't exist.

That isn't the first pre-Beringian site to be discovered. There are a couple of sites in South America. But the South American sites don't show human habitation as clearly the Idaho site.

The “preponderance of belief” has been shifting to a coastal transit for some years. Good to accumulate more evidence.

It will be interesting to observe what archaeologists discover in the next few decades about the coastal migration.

Have you heard about the Mal'ta child? Archaeologists found the skeleton of a 4 year old boy from eastern Siberia who was related to Middle Eastern or European populations and also Native American populations. But he was NOT related to East Asian populations. So they hypothesize that his tribe migrated east from Europe or western Asia, then later joined the migration into North and South America. That would account for the portion (about 1/3) of European-related DNA in pre-Columbian Native American populations.

This contradicts the 'Solutrean' theory, that accounts for the presence of European DNA in ancient Native American populations by a migration along the North Atlantic ice cap from Europe.
